Sears, Pitman and Coke in Squad for Colchester Trip
Tuesday, 28th Jul 2015 17:39

Town have confirmed that strike pair Freddie Sears and Brett Pitman are back in the squad alongside trialist Giles Coke for this evening’s friendly at Colchester United, but midfielder Cole Skuse misses out (KO 7.45pm).

Sears, who joined the Blues from the U’s in January, and Pitman missed Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Peterborough United due to minor foot and thigh injuries respectively.

Free agent ex-Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Coke, 29, played the first 60 minutes against Posh. Skuse is the only senior player to miss the trip having picked up a niggle.

Town are taking a following of around 2,000 to the Weston Homes Community Stadium with East Stand tickets on sale on the night.

He's likely to be better than Gerkin, thats for sure!

Harsh Arnie, way harsh.
Dean Gerken is a very decent goalkeeper and certainly good enough to be playing professional football at Championship level. Whether he is good enough to be 'that keeper' who wins you an extra 8 -10 points a season that makes the difference in whether you get promoted or not is a different matter.
Personally, I don't believe he is but unfortunately I don't think Bart is either, although he is marginally better than Gerks.
Either would be an excellent number 2 keeper for us, but I just feel we'll be having the same old debate again as the season goes on, over which should be playing after a costly mistake is made and we'll look back to the summer and think we should have tried to upgrade one of them.
But you're still out of line there Arnie!!!

Looked through Sheffield Wednesday forum on Giles Coke. Seems a strange signing for us.

No Hyam and No skuse ,that ball winning department is very weak. Don't underestimate the importance of the holding midfield player that protects the defence , including the central defensive pair from getting pulled to far apart. We need to up our squad in that department as well as an urgent right back / left back .

Coke crossed the white line and goes for a sniff at goal. Can he cut it, yes he can.

There's a lot of talk about pre season friendlies as a get together of the team and how to play as a team yet we have one more friendly to play going into the new season with only 4 defenders with any first team experience and one of those can't play next Saturday, surly we should of had a back 4 by now.

Jokes aside why are we not pushing the boat out a bit and getting in players that fill our squad gaps. Wait and we miss out or at the least they take time to gel.
The club must know who they want Mings money and the relaxation of FFP should mean we can afford the fees.
But the nearly men beckons.
30 plus journey men like Coke don't diet.( do it get it - get my coat !)

Skuse out and yet again, youngsters apart we are looking very light in key positions. £8M for Mings and still no real transfer action since. Less than two weeks until the big kick off, so surely the club will announce some new permanent signings soon?
