Town Announce 2015/16 Squad Numbers
Wednesday, 29th Jul 2015 15:52

Town have revealed the squad numbers for the 2015/16 season.

New striker Brett Pitman has been given the number 11 with Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick continuing in the nine and 10 shirts.

Town’s two on-loan wide men, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Ryan Fraser, have been handed seven and 14 respectively. Cameron Stewart, who was last season’s number seven, has moved to 35 having been made available for transfer.

Central defender Josh Yorwerth, who signed from Cardiff earlier in the summer, has been given the number 25, while Adam McDonnell, who joined the Blues a year ago from Shelbourne but was prevented from playing competitive football last season due to red tape, will wear the number 26.

Young full-backs Josh Emmanuel and Myles Kenlock have been given numbers 29 and 30, while another young defender, Joe Robinson, has been handed the number 34.

The number three shirt, vacated by Tyrone Mings when he joined Bournemouth last month, is yet to be assigned.

Or just no obvious candidates to take the number 3? Hope it does turn out to be a sign(ing) though..

I thought Parr might take the 3 shirt. Maitland-Niles number 7 would suggest Mick sees him as a regular starter. I like Pitman as number 11 too.

i think 11 suits a winger more. thought that pitman and fraser would of been the other way around. but doesnt really matter

I think the players who had the number last season has first pick if they want to keep it. That has been the case in all clubs I have been in. Shouldn't read too much into the numbers of Gerken and Bialkowski.

Gerken & Parr were 1 & 2 last season, so no need to change I suppose.
Bart probbaly happy enough to stay at 33 if he's playing & Mick has always indicated that he sees little between them, so status quo retained.
Definitely a full back (right) to come in though at number 3.
Surprised Niles got the number 7 shirt being a loan signing, maybe he requested it as part of the deal.
Squad looks weak when you read down through it like that. Need a couple of signings before next week to add the required quality.

Squad numbers mean absolutely nothing these days.... For example how many first choice keepers do you see having number one?

I've lost count the number of times I've watched a game in TV with hardly anyone wearing 1 to 11!

Interesting. When you look at it, lots of gaps and actually outside of the top eleven, very few options other than inexperienced youngsters.

Hmmm, thought Bishop might've been given the number 7....let's hope we see more of that shirt this season than last anyhow.

Not really sure I agree with the 'squad looking weak' comment.

The last two seasons we have been calling out for more attacking/goal scoring midfielders, which it looks like we now have.
Our attacking options have been vastly improved over the last season.
The only player that has gone that is any significant loss is Mings, but on the whole people seem to be pretty happy with Parr being replacement.

Obviously we don't have as much cover as we may need at the moment, but I wouldn't say the squad is 'weak'. If anything I see it as an improvement on the squad we reached the play offs with. Especially with a fit Didzy!

Number 15 saved for Varney too by the looks of things.

Interesting that number 29 wasn't saved for Ambrose.

To be honest i am hoping the number 3 vacancy means a new left back is on the way. It may be too soon to judge Jonny Parr but his distribution is poor and he only seems to have one idea.

With Mings & Cresswell occupying that position over the past few seasons we have been able to get away with the less attack minded Chambers on the right and have been spoiled with the attacking prowess of both Mings and Cressy.

Going forward we look fantastic and I am hoping there is a number being saved for the likes of Giles Coke, Darren Ambrose and Luke Varney.

I don't get how the team or the squad could be weaker bringing in Pittman, Fraser and the Arsenal kid and only losing Mings and Anderson.
We could do with a right back and a keeper, but other than that we are in better shape than last season.
We couldn't hope for better striking options and the defense is the same as last year basically (still with the right back problem).

Parr is a perfectly good option at left and right back; the big problem with him is his injury record.
And jas- I'd rather have promising inexperienced youngsters than the overpaid ancient mercenaries of prior years; Ben Thatcher or Emmanuel? Yorwerth or Sonko? McDonnell or Bowyer? Give me the youngsters any day of the week! I'd rather wait for the right additions, even if we have to wait till 1st September for them.
Anyhow I suspect Mick views Connolly and McDonnell as first team options, given their recent exposures.

For the old buggers out there - am I right in thinking the old (2-3-5) set up of yesteryear would have had shirt numbers of:

1) Keeper
2) Right back
3) Left back
4) Right half
5) Centre half
6) Left half
7) Outside right
8) Inside right
9) Centre forward
10) Inside left
11) Outside left

12) Orange cutterupper

Simple times...........

It's just cover at the back we lack. 4 strikers plus one to come back, plenty in midfield yes another creative sort wouldn't go amiss but none the less options.

At the moment if someone at the back got injured there's not much experience to come in. As it stands Clarke must stay and would

Whoops. Undoubtedly get games with injuries and suspensions. If we could get one or better 2 in that would be decent options everywhere. Personally if we could add Kelly and Wilkinson I thinK that would set us up v nicely.

Suspect Douglas will get a mega offer from Rangers and link up with his old gaffer.

I'm with you TheSelkirk I preferred the good old days when the numbers on the shirts meant something and the player wearing it had earned it, especially the No1 or No9. Squad numbers are nothing more than a marketing idea along with player names so kids pester the parents to buy a shirt and number and name - it all adds up.
Like most on here I hope the vacant 3 indicates a new signing is in the offing, may be another youngster who can be sold in a couple of years for millions.

I know we have a hard working team who did over achieve last season, but when you look at them individually there are not many any other club would want.
Thank god it is a team game cos we are more of a team than any individual.
