Coke and Touré Join Town
Saturday, 1st Aug 2015 17:53

Town manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed that trialists Giles Coke and Larsen Touré are joining the club. The duo both came on as subs during today’s 1-1 draw with FC Utrecht.

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Coke, 29, previously played in the friendlies at Peterborough and Colchester, while 31-year-old Guinean international Touré, a former team-mate of Kevin Bru's at Levski Sofia, was briefly involved against the U’s.

“We’re signing Cokey and Larsen Touré, they’re done,” McCarthy revealed following the match.

Speaking to Ipswich Player, he added: “I knew about Giles anyway from him playing against us over the years and I’ve always liked him as a player. He’s come in and done really well.

“Larsen impressed me as soon as he walked through the door and trained with us. He’s definitely got something and I’m delighted to get both of them on board.”

The Blues boss says he's pleased to add the duo plus Danish left-back Jonas Knudsen to the Town ranks: “Absolutely delighted, my 14-man squad is up to 17 rapidly, 19 with keepers, I think.”

McCarthy wouldn’t be drawn on progress with any of his other targets with TWTD understanding that the Blues were outbid by Leeds for Brentford winger Stuart Dallas, while veteran Leyton Orient winger Jobi McAnuff has also been linked.

“You know I wouldn’t talk to you about any other players, but you keep asking, so fair play to you, it’s your job,” he said.

“I wouldn’t tell you what we’re doing with players, all the ones we’ve got in this week have been a bit of a surprise to everybody except Cokey because he was already here.”

The addition of Knudsen means Matt Clarke’s loan to Portsmouth can be formalised: “It’ll go through on Monday. It was always going to go through but I didn’t want to be left completely bare.”

Clarke played the full 90 minutes for Portsmouth as they drew 0-0 at Gillingham this afternoon, his third friendly for Pompey.

Let's give them a chance before we slag them off. They may be great signings. I trust MM so hopefully he see's enough in them to feel they will add to the squad.

Well that's a suprised, was expecting a ton of negativity only to see 8 positive comments. Coke provides good competition for Skuse and Hyam when back. No idea where toure will fit in but he's got the right name!

As above let's let them settle in before we judge.

Well deserving of their 1-0 lead, apart from the opening ten minutes and just before halftime we were second best. But poor defending for their goal.
Took until the substitutions in the second half for us to establish any sort of dominance, and a great debut for Jonas Knudsen, welcome to PR.
Only a friendly, trust that MM will find his best starting eleven.
Thought their goalkeeper might be worth keeping an eye on, looked confident in all he did and got very close to D McG's penalty.

The pessimist inside of me is grumbling and saying we can do better than Giles Coke but McCarthy knows a hell of a lot more about Football players than I ever will so he deserves a chance. What's this Toure fella like?

Laughable. £7.65m in and we take journeymen.

What the fcuk.

How far we have fallen and despite my feelings on MM and his lack of ability it's not his fault.

Curried the normal response on here when disagreeing is to resort to insults.
Give me you view on the freebies and we can go from there!

Well you haven't been remotely subjective - they may well improve us.

After what Jewell / Keane and Magilton served up I will trust Mick.

My view on Mick freebies = generally gets them right.

Bru / McGoldrick / Murphy / Chambers / Berra / Anderson ( okay swap )

Sure, throw in the odd Banj there but generally good.

Give me this as opposed to

- £1.5 mill Taylor.
- Nearly £2 mill Priskin
- Same Martin
- Almost £4 mill for Edwards and Leadbitter.....!

1 negative for me today, Tabb starting the game at Left back he was out of his depth literally and easily outpaced on numerous occasions, would be a disastrous move to even use him as cover imo.

The squad is important , the first 11 has to be strong , but so does the bench ,we lacked that last year. So now we can make changes that don't actually weaken us. The front 4 are very good , Midfield centrally Skuse ,Bishop ,Bru ,Coke is stronger than last season. Not least as bish and bur have had proper pre seasons. New left back is class ,Emmanual at right back looks good and will get better. Nilis looks decent and will exploit space ,Same with Frazer ,i suspect away from home he will be a bigger threat. We were up against 3 5 2 today and struggled for 60 mins ,due to be out numbered in midfield ,same happened last season against that formation , today Brentford played 3 5 2 ,so we need to go 433 and cause them problems , we have the players for various systems now ,which is great. Expect one or two new faces next week. Plus a few to leave on loan

kingcarlos , i agree with you re Tabb , he gives his all but wow at left back he was terrible ,out of possession ,failed to read the game ,got caught out for pace and wrong decision for the cross that lead to their goal. I could go on ,but feel sorry for the bloke.

Tab is CM he can do a job on the left wing but not at left back. I hope Mick is just giving him games now to get used to it for in case of emergency situations only.

Back line for me should be

Bart
Prr Chambo Berra Knudsen (by the look of him)

Smith on the bench, he'll get plenty of game time with injuries and suspensions. Emanuel seems to have potential so one more defender ideally with some versitily would make me fairly happy

Add to that what ever else Mick magics up and to me we look in good shape.

Having said that, championship = Bonkers

Keeper situation - Steve Harper is without a club at the moment, I know he's 40 but having him on the bench at least would improve the team.
