Town to Keep Bidding for McGhee
Monday, 3rd Aug 2015 23:48

Town are reported to have had two bids turned down for Hearts defender Jordan McGhee and are expected to return with a third. The 19-year-old was previously mentioned in connection with the Blues last week.

Now, according to widespread reports in Scotland, Town have had two offers for the East Kilbride-born centre-half or right-back rejected but are said to be ready to return with a further bid.

According to some reports, Town's second and most recent bit was £250,000 with Hearts said to be after at least £500,000 for the highly-rated youngster.

McGhee came through the ranks at Tynecastle and has won Scotland caps with the U15s, U16s, U18s and U21s, who he captains.

Having broken into the Hearts first team late in 2012/13, McGhee has gone on to make 33 starts and 11 sub appearances, scoring four goals.

McGhee has already attracted interest from Premier League clubs, with Aston Villa and Swansea City recently linked, and in 2013 Juventus were reported to be keeping tabs on him. In January he signed a new Hearts contract which runs until the summer of 2017.

As soon as MM started talking Josh Emmanuel up for Saturday, I guessed something was going on ;-)

Nice one! Think McGhee could be the last piece of the jigsaw. I'd never heard of him when we were first linked but after looking him up it sounds like he's very well thought of up in Scotland. Be interesting to know how much we're offering and how much they want.

We have got some good first team and squad players added this year, if he is as good as Knudsen, then push the boat out to get him. Two top quality young full backs could make it a great challenge for promotion.

"Wake up McGhee I think I got something to say to you
It's nearly September and you really should be down here with Town"
With apologies to Rod Stewart.

Michael11 - his market value is around £100k however the fact two of our bids have been declined and premier league teams are also keeping tabs I suspect this valuation to be considerably higher.

Somewhere in the region of £400k - £600k would be an educated guess!

He is 6 foot 2 and a half inches... just thought I'd add that, in case anyone else was sad enough to want to know.

Still rather have Byrne from Swindon. More than ready to make the leap imo...

Scared of spending big I guess? Hardly say 1-2m is a splash when we've made 8m already!

Would think his valuation is well over 1million, very good prospect, really hope we get him. Defence sorted if we do

Silly question maybe, but where does this leave Chambers? He wouldn't be ahead of Smith and Berra all season surely?

I'd prefer Ziva Davids!

Good thing about Mcghee is he like Chambers can play RB and CB. When he signed his new contract for hearts he made playing CB his priority. Think we would bring him in to play RB

I noticed he only came on for the last 3 minutes of Hearts game at the weekend. Looks like they were not risking him getting injured ahead of a transfer.
If what Jimmy86 is saying is the case, I'd imagine he would be looking for a similar clause in any contract with us. His chances of playing centre half with us this season would be very low however, with Berra, Smith, Chambers & Yorwerth all ahead of him surely.

I think he must've had an uphill paper round, SamWhiteUK

Len_Brennan only googled Mcghee and it was in an article in the Daily Record, so make of that what you will. That is the same Daily record that claimed Mick was going to bring in Scott Allan. Whilst there is still time left I'd say that's unlikely now.

I can see him as a new right bk. Everyone let's face it we don't have 8m probably 3m Max the other is going to be used to invest in the squad. Aka pay the bills for the season I don't mind as long as the money we owe is coming down and we are ran right unlike the sheepshank era

Hearts want 500k before they will even consider letting us talk to him. Our bid is reported a 250k.

Things are taking shape! Things are taking shape!
Louis: I have just read the same thing.

In MM and TC we trust. I cannot but help thinking they know what they're doing.

There may end up being one or two duffers, but I would be very surprised if MM and TC haven't found another one or two new diamonds.

How did they get Knudsen for £350 grand? Amazing!! COYB!!.

If it's true he's interesting Mick as reported and we've had a couple of nibbles, let's not waste time. Get it done and get him in. £500k for promising 19 year old in a position we urgently need filled might not be the cheapest deal we do, but could create high value for the team and club over time.
Knudson, Smith/Chambers, Berra and McGhee
Happy!
Even if we can't attract him to play in the squad Mick's assembled, it's still been a very astute summer of acquisitions by Mick and the team imho.
Fraser, Pitman and Maitland Niles are signings built on the success of a great man-manager insisting on 100% commitment and playing to his squads strengths at the time - and over-achieving (which was was much needed tonic for a battered fan-base!)

Now let's play some football!

COYB!!!!

We could surely afford 250k? Why pussy-foot around, why not just bid what they want? It's not exactly a huge amount for what sounds like a decent prospect for the future

Ah the centre half we need. Keep on keeping on Mick.
