Dozzell Wins Cap
Wednesday, 26th Aug 2015 22:19

Andre Dozzell won his first England U17 cap as the Young Lions beat Italy 3-0 at Telford’s New Bucks Head in their first game at the St George’s Park Tournament this evening.

Dozzell, 16, created the opening goal for Liverpool’s Adam Lewis in the 35th minute when he cut the ball back from the right.

Manchester City’s Sadou Diallo netted both the other goals from the penalty spot in the 50th and 55th minutes.

Central midfielder Dozzell, who was capped by England at U16 level last season, was subbed on 62 while his Town team-mate, keeper Nick Hayes, was left on the bench throughout, but seems likely to start Friday’s second game at Walsall.

The youngsters face Portugal in their final game at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium on Sunday.

The matches are preparation for the first qualifying round of the UEFA European Championships in October.

Nice one Andre. Always good to see a Dozzell doing well.

Well done Andre. I was in Telford on business today, but the 3 hour train journey back to Peterborough might have been a barrier to me taking in the game anyway!!

Continuing to hear a lot of good things about Andre - an Ipswich and England regular in the making.

(lovely goal by the way - the team's confidence and self-belief really shows)

I was there and he did us proud. Didn't look fazed by the step up in age group. Confident on the ball. Kept things simple and a nice pull back from the byline for a well-taken goal, Little light in the tackle but hey he's still feeling his way. Hope to see him in England colours at higher levels too (while playing for us of course).
