Korona Confirm Malarczyk Joining Town
Thursday, 27th Aug 2015 17:58

Polish club Korona Kielce have confirmed that their defender Piotr Malarczyk is leaving the club to join Town.

Under the headline ‘Thank You Piotr!’ Korona’s official website says that their captain is leaving his hometown club and that “his career will continue in England with Ipswich Town”.

Town have triggered a buy-out clause the previously out of contract Malarczyk inserted into a new one-year deal he signed in June which meant he could move on if a foreign club made an offer of 50,000 Polish Zloty, just over £8,500.

The 24-year-old central defender or right-back was in Ipswich for talks earlier in the week when he agreed personal terms. The length of his contract with Town is not yet known.

Earlier today it was reported that the move had hit a minor snag with Korona claiming not to have received an official written bid for the player, however, that now appears to have been resolved.

Despite Korona announcing Malarczyk’s exit, official confirmation from Town regarding his signing could come tomorrow or perhaps as late as next Tuesday - Monday is a Bank Holiday - with the paperwork relating to the move, including international clearance, still to be completed. The transfer window closes on Tuesday at 6pm.

Malarczyk, who was previously interesting another Polish side, Jagiellonia Białystok, has been with Korona, who play in the Ekstraklasa, the Polish top flight, throughout his career having joined their youth set-up as a 10-year-old.

He made his senior debut in 2009 and made a total 131 appearances, scoring eight goals. Malarczyk, who stands 6ft 3in tall, has also been capped by Poland at U17, U19 and U21 international levels and has been keen to move abroad in order to break into the senior side.

All players moving from one country to another need international clearance.

afcfee - international clearance required presumably because he is not British and is moving to the Polish FA to the English FA register.

Welcome Piotr. If Parr can get and stay fit as well I feel like we have a decent squad with depth and coverage right across the park.

Equally lots of adaptability. Big Micks total football revolution continues.

International clearance, for an EU national moving to another EU state is a mere formality. He has the right to come to the UK without restriction and, since he has an offer of employment, can stay here as long as that persists for up to five years; thereafter, he can stay forever, job or no job . . .

Hope it turns out well for him and us, but he has been with them for 14 years and is only 24 years old so is home sicknes a worry?
That said after seeing some of the options available at Doncaster on Tuesday I do not think we need worry about strength in depth. Emmanuel looked very assured and we have 2 nailed on left backs with 3 awesome centre backs.

Good news–although I look forward to an announcement from Town before I really believe it. (Mind you, he could still be the next Amir Karic...)

An excellent summer's business, we are now looking strong in all departments with decent back up, lets all hope this great start to the season can now be continued, if this guy is as good as Knudsen we will have found ourselves another gem. The Mings deal has set this up, extending contracts of existing players and bringing in quality reinforcements to the squad, lets hope this is finally going to be our year COYB

Bluetone: I think you will find that it was 'Corona' - I go back longer than you when we used to go round collecting Corona bottles returning them to the shop for 3 old pence. But that's not important right now! We have an excellent signing adding depth to our defence. Is it too early to dream of a top two spot? Oh, goodness, let's keep calm and hope that in the New Year we are still on top and drawing away from the pack. Please, please may we make it this season!!! Should be a good test against Brighton on Saturday for us to make a better judgement. So nervous about it all, but it does seem as though Town have got it right. Can we do it? YES we can!!! Goodness, I hope so

Don't bother hoppy it will be lost on the humourless pedants. It all goes rather flat just like when sugar is added to the fizzy..

Could turn out to be a very good addition to the team.
Does anyone know which position he has predominatly played at throughout his career?
Hope that it's Rb and that he makes that his aim.
Tough decisions to be made ahead for team selections for MM.
Welcome to PR Piotr.

Great news. Hoping for more additions before Tuesday as Mick has hinted the club are in for more than one new addition. We know he wanted another winger for example. Great summer business, helped by the Mings money AND huge wages saved from thirteen players departing since May. The Taylor wages for example will have helped set this type of deal up, along with increased season ticket sales plus last seasons improved revenue from TV, sales from merchandise, tickets etc.
