Fraser Trying Not to Get Too Excited About Old Trafford Trip
Friday, 28th Aug 2015 06:00

Ryan Fraser is a self-confessed Manchester United fan but the Town winger admits he is not trying to get too excited ahead of next month’s Capital One Cup third round visit to Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old Scot, on a season-long loan from Bournemouth, completed the scoring in the 4-1 extra-time victory at Doncaster on Tuesday with his third goal of the season to continue his impressive start to life at Portman Road.

Within a few minutes he and his team-mates heard the news that they had been paired with United at the next stage and he admitted: “Everyone’s buzzing about it and looking forward to it.

“I don’t know what team the manager is going to pick — he might go for the young guns again or he’ll play a more experienced side.

“All the guys involved have worked hard to get through to this stage and it’s something to look forward to. But personally I’m not really thinking about it because the league is more important.”

“I’d love to play there but I’m not going to tell the gaffer that. Let’s just wait and see what happens. It will be incredible at Old Trafford with the big crowd and we’re going to take a hell of a lot of fans up there so it will be an unbelievable atmosphere.”

Asked if there were any United fans in the Town camp Fraser added: “Apart from myself I don’t know. I’m a United fan and I’ve been to some big games, like against Liverpool at Old Trafford, so I’ve had my fair share of the experience from a fan’s point of view.

“I’ve watched games there but never played there, so if I get the chance it will be a great experience.

“Where did it come from, my support for United? I suppose I’m just a glory hunter like everyone else! When I was up in Aberdeen me and another young player, Cammy Smith, used to go to a few of the games, the big games, when we could.

“He’s a United fan as well and we actually went down to analyse some games — it was quite easy to get tickets when we were doing that. We had a good night out in Manchester as well so it was a good package.”

But while the Town players are licking their lips in anticipation of the clash at Old Trafford on September 23rd Fraser is adamant the game will not distract them from the four league fixtures they have to fulfil before then.

He insisted: “That won’t be a problem because our main focus is to win promotion to the Premier League.

“We haven’t really spoken about the United tie — all the attention has been on Saturday’s game against Brighton. We’ve prepared for it, we’re focused on it and we’re going into it properly so hopefully we’ll do a good job.”

Whilst its good players and fans are looking forward to the Old Trafford trip, Im a bit concerned that there is so much focus on this cup game, that the far more important top of table clash in 24 hours time has not even been mentioned by the players.

Dont be surprised if this apparent lack of focus leads to us dropping valuable points tomorrow.

Did you actually read the article, ArnieM?

Hmm. No sorry i didn't read it totally. Its just the impression ive got from the media reports and even the title of this article which makes me fear the players are not totally focused on the real issue - promotion. I hope we are fully focused.........COYBs Forever Blue.

Totally unrelated but I have come up with this

I have taken my lead from those who have suggested some sort of My Sharona based chant.

He is Piotr Mala-Check, Mala-check, he is Piotr Mala-check signed from Karona
Other teams say what the heck, how'd they get ,Mala-check, so cheaply from Karona

He's never gonna stop, gets us up, we don't mind, hes got the touch on the right si, I, I, I de. Wooooo

From Karona, we signed him from Karona.........

Its a start. I'm loving the idea that My Sharona can be pumped out round FPR

There is a big irony when he says they are not talking about it in an interview that is all about it. I really do hope that it doesn't affect our form but I can understand Arnie's fear. Let's hope it will be a motivation for them all to keep performing so well.

Born and bred in Aberdeen, on contact with Bournemouth, currently playing for Ipswich yet supports Manchester Utd.
What's the matter with some people.
