Stewart Joins Doncaster on Loan
Friday, 28th Aug 2015 11:42

Out-of-favour winger Cameron Stewart has joined Tuesday's Capital One Cup opponents Doncaster Rovers on loan until January 2nd.

The 24-year-old has made only two appearances for the Blues since signing a three-year deal following his release from Hull City in the summer of 2014, both as a sub in the FA Cup ties with Southampton last season.

Manager Mick McCarthy made the former Manchester United youth player available for transfer over the summer.

“It’s good to be here and refreshing," Stewart told the official Doncaster website. "I needed to get out of Ipswich and play some games to show people what I can do again so I’m delighted to be here at the moment.

“I’m here until January 2nd on loan and I need to get as many games as I can and help push Doncaster up the league and enjoy myself again.

“Hopefully I can bring a bit of excitement and wing play and create some goals and assists and maybe score some myself.”

He added: “At the moment, I’m not involved and it came to the stage where he [McCarthy] said; 'You can go out on loan and play some games, I won’t hold you back,' and once a manager says that then it’s a good indication that you’re not going to play there so I had to try and give myself the best chance to get out there and I’m here to play first team games.

“It’s happened quite quickly to be honest. I spoke with the gaffer and my agent and then last night the call came to get here before the weekend so I packed my bags and hit the road and off I went.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision really as I’ve not really being playing much at Ipswich and haven’t been involved too much so the opportunity to be part of something meant that I wasn’t going to hang around and miss out on it.”

Stewart, who spent time on loan at Barnsley towards the end of last season, could make his debut in the home game against Fleetwood on Saturday and is available to Rovers for cup matches.

As it's a senior half-season loan the Blues will not be able to recall the Mancunian at any stage.

Meanwhile, former Blues midfielder Owen Garvan has joined Colchester United on a short-term contract until January.

The 27-year-old Irishman, who was recently training with Southend, was released by Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

Excellent news. They won't be paying all his wages, but at least it'll free up a few quid for someone more suited to what Mick & TC are looking to achieve here.

To be fair it wouldn't surprise me if we were paying all his wages still. He is an odious character by all accounts, so Mick may just want him out any way possible.

Not one of Micks best, he should have been a decent addition. Man U youth player, pacey still young, something to prove. I suspect a terrible attitude, Mick might have been sold a dummy there.

You cant get them all right though, pleased he's moved on, just need someone to take him permanatly

Garvan only 27?! Blimey, seems to have been around for ever.

Wouldn't mind seeing one or two of the other youngsters from that game head off there for some experience as well. Looks as though Doncaster could use an Adam McDonnell or Myles Kenlock in the squad!

I don't think we are going to miss him. cornishnick: I too was very surprised Garvan is only 27, but then he did break through at an early age.

Is it an attitude problem? i have to say that the picture above does tend to give an air of problem child? maybe the sun was in his eyes at the time,we will never know what his problem is!!

Not a big miss. At 24 he's been at 11 different clubs (some on loan) and has only scored 4 goals in his entire professional career (since 2008).

Frankly, can't see him making it at Doncaster either.

He has the skill (as he showed recently for the first 20 mins for the U21's) but seems to lack commitment and heart.

Would love to have seen Garvan back at Ipswich

No recall option either!
If he does well he may extend his stay until end of season.
It sounds like Cameron hasn't exactly been banging MM door down, he strikes me as a player that is happy to drift around and lacks a competitive mentality.

He has talent put he is not the right type of character for us.

Best of luck to him at Donny.

A player who always seemed to give us problems when playing against us. I was really pleased when we signed him but he has obviously not come up to the mark. Don't think we will be seeing much more of him. On Garvan if he couldn't get a game at Southend don't think he will be anywhere near good enough for us.

karls_dad,

The picture was first used here: http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/27593/town-squad-return-for-pre-season-t

and it looks as if Stweart is giving Fraser evils

"I need to play games to show people what I can do" says it all, he had training everyday in which to do that to the only person that mattered. MM! Clearly couldn't be bothered to do that and MM's simple philosophy fell on his deaf little ears.

Southend wanted Garvan to sign but he kept his options open. Obviously hoped for a Championship club to come in for him but no one was interested.

It's good he's gone - we don't really want unhappy not playing players around, maybe Henshall will get a loan too?

A good move for him and of course us. It may have freed up much needed wages to spend on other areas. I wish him well, but can't see him or Henshall for that matter having much of a future at the club.

"I needed to get out of Ipswich and play some games to show people what I can do again"

That says it all really. If you can't impress in training, why would you be given live pitch time to prove yourself?
