Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Polish defender Piotr Malarczyk is joining the Blues from Korona Kielce and says he could do one more deal before Tuesday's deadline.

“He is about to join us, he’ll be joining us from tomorrow,” he said. “He’s a right-sided defender who can play right-back or centre-back.

“A good competitor, he really wants to defend, like all my defenders, to be fair, Josh Yorwerth, Josh Emmanuel and Myles Kenlock included, and, of course, the first-teamers that are here.

“He’s captain of the team, he looks a real good character to me, so I'm delighted to have got him.”

The deal will be completed too late for Malarczyk to be involved against Brighton tomorrow.

The Blues boss outlined how the deal came about: “I get sent emails and text messages and all sorts from all ports of call, agents and everything.

“I look at them all, I check them all out and some have been fruitful. Hundreds of thousands haven’t that we’ve not done.

“Kevin Bru walked in the door, that worked out really well. We took Kevin Bru’s mate in Larsen Toure, you could see what I saw him instantly in Tuesday’s performance.

“Likewise, this was through an agent who I know, I’ve known him for years in Ireland. I just checked out.

“We looked it up on our scouting system, I liked what I saw and I sent Mark Kennedy out to watch him play live and he backed all the things [we saw on there].

“You can put together a YouTube clip together of everyone’s best bits but he saw it first hand, do I’m really pleased to have got him.”

He says one more deal might get done before the transfer window closes at 6pm on Tuesday: “Maybe, we’ve got one more that we might be doing.”

Cloddyseedbed added 13:54 - Aug 28 Excellent news, but will he be 1st choice right back if he is as good as he seems or will he have to be a part bit player as it seems the manager does not really want to drop one of the three of Berra, Smith and Chambers? If he is as good as our new left back I personally would like him to be a regular in the right back role, but I haven't seen him play yet, so I'll reserve my judgement until I do. A signing that can only be a great positive for the club.

hollywoodginge added 14:32 - Aug 28 I heard a whisper Kevin Nolan was joining weeks ago, just been released by West Ham. I think it's unlikely but may have gained more credence as part of the info I heard was he had to reach a settlement on his contract first, which he has done. Who knows.

Neither know the Championship particularly well at the moment. Great to see such a full squad, with one more looking to come in!
