McCarthy: No Loan Exits Before Manchester United Cup Tie
Thursday, 17th Sep 2015 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy would like some of his younger fringe players to go out on loan, but says no one is going anywhere while the Blues are still in the Capital One Cup. Town travel to Manchester United next Wednesday for their third round tie.

McCarthy says his squad has reached a size where not everyone can be involved in senior training on a regular basis.

“We’ve now got 24, 25 players, they can’t all train every day with the first team, so the likes of Josh Emmanuel, Myles Kenlock, Josh Yorwerth and James Alabi even, who came and scored against Doncaster, won’t play every week,” he said.

“We may well still be in the Capital One Cup after the Manchester United tie and I’ll need as big a squad as possible to deal with that.

“So nobody will be going out anywhere until we’ve played that and have seen what the result is. But after that then, yes, possibly [some could go out on loan].

“I’ve had people enquiring about some of them and the answers have all been the same: Let me get that game out of the way, let’s see what happens, if we’re still in that cup competition I need everybody here.

"If not, then it might be right for some of them to go out on loan and get some games.”

McCarthy has reiterated that he has no intention of adding any loanees to his squad, having confirmed that Kevin Bru and Teddy Bishop came through Tuesday’s U21 game at Birmingham following their hamstring injuries, along with recent signing Tommy Oar, who was playing his first game in a Town shirt.

“No chance,” the Blues boss added. “We’ve got 24 players, I’ve got the best squad, the strongest squad, the most players I’ve ever had since I’ve been here.”

"No chance" of any loans coming in. Sure we have a bigger senior squad than in previous years under Mick, but why completely rule out any possibility of bringing someone in? There will always be opportunities to improve the squad & we should at least be open to that. Neither Douglas nor Coke have convinced & with Skuse picking up an injury we have a weakness in the centre of midfield. I know Bru & Bishop are coming back, but they could aggrevate their injuries easily enough.
If some like like Leon Brittan, who can't get into an excellent Swansea side at the moment, became available surely we should interested in looking at taking him?

Mick as ever knows how to big his players up. We have a chance against United

Len - If Mick can get someone in who will dramatically improve us of course he will. He doesn't reveal his hand to the press ever.

How many players are we linked with? No one, because we don't have people from the club leaking everything like under the Jewell / Keane days.

Apparently Douglas was superb at Leeds - haven't we won 5/7 games he's started? Not too shabby in my book.

Bit of meaningless stat on Douglas there, we're only 8 games in and our first 11 hasn't changed much.

If it wasnt for smith keeping wood in his back pocket and scoring Tuesday night,

Douglas would of had motm he was a different class, broke everything up and won most tackles. We dont need anyone to replace him, if he doesn't play we have bru and bishop to come back and rather them free than a premiership off cast

Agree with most above posts as Mick clearly know's what he is doing and right now i dont think we need anyone adding from the loan market. But as the original post stated if for example Leon Britton was someone Mick wanted then i'd be behind it. Either way im just enjoying this campaign.

Len, have you ever read an interview with Mick before? Take everything he says with a pinch of salt.

Hardly a pointless stat - winning 5 out of 7 he's played means he's got to be doing something right!
Whilst I agree with all that he and skuse are alike, it has allowed 4 players to attack when at our best.
Loanees aren't what we need personally, we saw the keane/jewell era where the team was loanees and nobody cared for the club!
Bru's going to be a massive plus after ending last year so well!
Teddy is "just class"
And as I said before, we're forgetting Hyam and Varney still to comeback at some point over xmas!
The polish bloke will start to play to sure up at the back!
The squad is good !

For the first time in ages, we don't have any 96-day "emergency" loans, that we have to worry about departing towards the end of December. All of our players are here for the duration.

I wondered what Leon Brittan had been doing since he resigned over Westland.

Poor old Douglas And Skuse were so unfairly criticised after our defeats. I think some of our fans think we're going to win every game and storm the league. It's not like that and we'll be up and down but away to Reading it was mostly four versus two when they attacked in midfield. Skuse and Douglas didn't stand a chance!

It's the same as a couple of years ago when we had Skuse and Hyam in the middle - both do the same sort of job, when Bishop and Bru are back we can have a more balanced midfield, and then perhaps we'll see what Douglas is really about.

Agreed we have the best squad for years with Bru and Bishop to return .

Can not agree with Guthram though It was Michael Hestletine not Leon Britton who resigned over Westland!

bobwya - They both resigned. Heseltine (Defence) first, then Brittan from Trade & Industry later, as part of the fall-out.
