Yorwerth: Loan Spell Will Benefit Me Massively
Wednesday, 30th Sep 2015 11:57

Defender Josh Yorwerth believes his 28-day loan spell with League Two Crawley Town will benefit him massively. The 20-year-old helped the Red Devils’ backline keep a clean sheet last night as they beat Terry Butcher’s Newport County 3-0 at Rodney Parade.

“The gaffer at Ipswich, Mick McCarthy. and me as well, think it’s right now that I get out and get some games. Especially coming off playing against Manchester United, I need to play some Football League games,” he told the official Crawley website.

“I think this will benefit me massively and if I keep doing well and performing and doing what the gaffer asks me hopefully it’ll all go well here for me.”

Reflecting on last week’s Capital One Cup tie at Old Trafford, the Wales U21 international added: “It was an absolute dream for me to play against [Wayne Rooney], I’m so thankful to the gaffer for giving me the opportunity to play there. I’ve supported the club all my life and it was just an absolute dream, it didn’t feel real.”

Yorwerth, who joined the Blues in the summer following a trial having been released by Cardiff City, is with Crawley until October 25th.

I am sure Josh will do well at Crawley just as Matt Clarke is at Pompey. However I just hope that we eventually end up giving them a chance in our first team.
Many players have in recent years been in the same situation i.e. Hewitt and Marriott and then for one reason or another they are discarded.

From the little I have seen of both Yowerth and Clarke I think they would not be out of place at all in our first team. I just hope it works out well for both our club and the individuals themselves.

Hewitt & Marriott were "discarded" for the same reason, they weren't good enough to play Championship level football for Ipswich Town.
I have the same hopes as you for Clarke & Yorwerth, but for now they are rightfully behind Berra, Smith, Chambers & Malarczyk in the pecking order for a starting place at centre half - even though a couple of those experienced pros are not playing their best football at the moment.
The loan spells will do them the world of good & build them up to hopefully be genuine contenders for the first team next season.

Len .. That again comes down to opinion as I felt Hewitt was not given a fair chance or run of games allowed to others to prove himself and is still better than any right back option we have at the club at present ?
And if a defender is consistently playing poorly when do the youngsters get their chance to rise up the pecking order to see what they can do , how many poor games does it take ?

Terry Butcher of Newport County now there's a man who could teach Josh a thing or two.

Spot on Surco72 Hewitt wasn't given a chance by the Almighty MM and theirs one or two others i can mention and yet some others are played consistently no matter what the performance .

Hewitt had a long loan spell, think it was for Peter Taylor at Gillingham. That was his chance to impress, i'm sure Town watched him and got reports on his ability!

spot on surco, Hewitt is a better right back than chambers FACT!

Hope Josh comes back and claims a starting place i was so impressed with him at old trafford. In fact the way the defence is playing right now i would rather see the back 4 who started against Man u in the starting line-up including Bart. I really dont want to believe MM has favourites but it certainly seems some players are nailed on to start no matter their current form COYB

Fact is a difficult word to use when it comes to opinion. And opinion is always the case when it comes to what you think about players and their quality.
Fact is though that Hewitt now plays for Notts County in League 2 instead of being picked up by any of the top-clubs in the Championship - or any Premier League club - when released.
I had high hopes for him too, just as I had for Marriott, but sometimes things just doesn't work out the way you hope. I hope and believe Yorwerth and Clarke - and soon probably Kenlock too - will come back better players and battle their way into the team. Only time will tell.

my point is this chambers is no right back and just humps the ball upfield. Hewitt on the other hand was a full back and should have been given the time to grow into that position. To say look at where he is now and why wasnt he picked up by any championship clubs doesnt hold water i am afraid many players are playing in lower leagues and could play at higher levels, Sears, cresswell, mings spring to mind had town not taken chance on them they could still be playing at a lower level.

Still, always good to have healthy debate, have a good day blue swede...coyb

Agree with you that Chambers is not an out and out right back and that many players in the lower leagues may be good enough to play at a higher level. But many of them haven't been tried at Championshipclubs before.
And I am not sure that there is time to grow into a position if you go for a place in the top-six or even better automatic promotion. Especially not since there are other players who are growing into that position like Emmanuel who I guess is rated higher than Hewitt by the club.
I agree with you too, nice to be able to have a good debate here without mudslining. Have a good day you too, Dissboyitfc

Blueswede ... good points and obviously our joy of football is about opinion but a lot of released players have to drop down a league sometimes to get noticed again so that does not necessarily make Hewitt a bad player because at present he is in a lower league as Didz and Sears would surely highlight ?
Yowerth didn't look out of place against the likes of Rooney , Martial and Mata away against the highest placed team in the country yet Berra has looked poor against Brighton, Reading , Birmingham and Bristol City why has Yowerth not been given half an hour run out in one of these games ?

I don't want to be critical I understand the premiership is what we're aiming for but if you go into a game and lose 3-0 it's not something to be proud off.
