Bru's Mauritius in World Cup Action
Wednesday, 7th Oct 2015 10:59

Kevin Bru’s Mauritius face Kenya at home in the first leg of their round one qualifier for the 2018 World Cup this afternoon.

Bru, 26, is expected to start and win his fourth cap for the country of his parents’ birth alongside his older brother Jonathan, 30, who skippers the side.

Mauritius, who take on the Kenyans in the return leg in Nairobi on Sunday, will be up against Cape Verde in the second qualifying round if they progress from round one for the first time ever.

The Bru brothers and their team-mates are outsiders to win the tie with Mauritius currently 168th in FIFA’s rankings and Kenya 131st.

Parisian Bru previously won France caps at U19 level but opted to switch allegiance to Mauritius in 2011.

The midfielder is one of a number of Town players hoping to win international caps over the next few days.

Christophe Berra and Scotland face Poland at Hampden Park, Glasgow on Thursday and then take on Gibraltar in Portugal on Sunday as they complete their Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Winger Ryan Fraser and U21s keeper Jonathan Henly are with the Scotland U21s for their European Championship qualifiers against France on Saturday and Iceland on the following Tuesday.

Strikers Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick’s Republic of Ireland play their final two Euro 2016 qualifiers against Germany in Dublin on Thursday and Poland in Warsaw on Sunday.

Winger Tommy Oar and Australia play a World Cup qualifier against Jordan in Amman on Thursday.

AInsley Maitland-Niles is with the England U19 squad for their Euro 2016 qualifying group games in Skopje, Macedonia.

They face the hosts on Thursday, Finland two days later and Italy on the following Tuesday.

Defender Josh Yorwerth and keeper Michael Crowe will be with the Wales U21 squad for their Euro 2017 qualifier against Denmark in Aalborg on Friday.

Young winger Dylan Connolly is with the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for their Euro 2017 qualifiers against Lithuania at the RSC in Waterford on Friday and Italy in Vicenza the following Tuesday.

Why he hasn't started the last couple of league games is beyond me. Defies belief, kept out of the side by someone who's really not impressing.

Lets hope Mick isn't misguided enough to put his favorite Tabby in midfield next week replacing Douglas.,saying that Kevin Bru has had a lot of travelling during past 10 days.
Players like his captain who are not good enough to get international call ups always seems to be in the team along with Cole Skuse. In fact I can remember Mr Mc Carthy saying this about both of them in the past, which I don't think is fair on some of the other players like Bart who was given compassionate leave, and then hasn't been able to get back in.
A bit different; but remember George Burley got us to 5th in Premier league one season with a smallish squad, and then splashed out and brought in players from around the world;so losing the camaraderie that had built up in his previous years at the helm.
However in over 50 years of supporting Town cant recall ever feeling before that Manager has favorites as I do currently with MM>
