Bru's Mauritius Lose World Cup Qualifier
Wednesday, 7th Oct 2015 17:51

Kevin Bru played the full 90 minutes as Mauritius were beaten 5-2 at home by Kenya in the first leg of their 2018 World Cup round one qualifier this afternoon.

Having been 3-0 down by the 49th minute, Bru’s side fought back to 3-2 - the Town midfielder’s older brother Jonathan, their skipper, netting the second goal - before the Kenyans scored twice more late on.

Les Dodos face Kenya again in the second leg in Nairobi on Sunday. The aggregate winners of the tie will face Cape Verde in the second qualifying round.

If Mauritius are able to turn things around in the second leg they will progress from the first qualifying round for the first time.

Parisian Bru, who has now won four caps for Club M, previously represented France at U19 level but opted to switch allegiance in 2011.

The 26-year-old is one of a number of Town players currently away with their national squads.

Christophe Berra and Scotland face Poland at Hampden Park, Glasgow on Thursday and then take on Gibraltar in Portugal on Sunday as they complete their Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Winger Ryan Fraser and U21s keeper Jonathan Henly are with the Scotland U21s for their European Championship qualifiers against France on Saturday and Iceland on the following Tuesday.

Strikers Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick’s Republic of Ireland play their final two Euro 2016 qualifiers against Germany in Dublin on Thursday and Poland in Warsaw on Sunday.

Winger Tommy Oar and Australia play a World Cup qualifier against Jordan in Amman on Thursday.

AInsley Maitland-Niles is with the England U19 squad for their Euro 2016 qualifying group games in Skopje, Macedonia.

They face the hosts on Thursday, Finland two days later and Italy on the following Tuesday.

Defender Josh Yorwerth and keeper Michael Crowe will be with the Wales U21 squad for their Euro 2017 qualifier against Denmark in Aalborg on Friday.

Young winger Dylan Connolly is with the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for their Euro 2017 qualifiers against Lithuania at the RSC in Waterford on Friday and Italy in Vicenza the following Tuesday.

No question about his fitness then.. 90 minutes played! He has to start v Huddersfield and we need a much needed win to boost confidence! We lose that game and I seriously don't know where we go! Saw them against wolves and they are a poor side! Need to start making partnerships too in the spine of the team! Just please not the skuse/Douglas partnership COYB!!

Looks like Bru's interest in the 2018 world cup is at an end. Is his brother Jonathan any good?
