Big Night for Irish Pair in Poland
Sunday, 11th Oct 2015 10:24

Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick’s Republic of Ireland travel to Poland this evening looking to confirm their place at Euro 2016 (Sky Sports One, 7pm).

Ireland are third in the group behind the second-placed Poles on goal difference following Thursday’s dramatic 1-0 victory over Germany in Dublin and if they win in Warsaw they will qualify.

A second draw between the two teams - the Dublin game ended 1-1 - would see second spot decided on away goals scored, so Ireland would also qualify if tonight’s match were to end in a draw in which they scored two or more goals.

Martin O’Neill’s side could still finish first in the group but the Germans look set to confirm top spot when they take on second-bottom Georgia in their final game, also today.

If Ireland fail to win they can’t finish any lower than third and so will go into the play-offs.

Murphy has previously won 17 full caps and McGoldrick two and both are still looking for their first international goals.

Christophe Berra’s Scotland are fourth and now can’t qualify. They complete their fixtures with a game against Gibraltar in Portugal (Sky Sports Two, 7.30pm). Berra will be looking to add to his 30 caps and three international goals

Elsewhere, Kevin Bru and Mauritius take on Kenya in the second leg of their World Cup first round qualifier in Nairobi trailing 5-2 from the home game on Wednesday. The midfielder will win his fifth cap.
