Connolly Wins U21 Cap in Defeat Tuesday, 13th Oct 2015 18:15 Midfielder Dylan Connolly won his eighth Republic of Ireland U21 cap as his side were beaten 1-0 by Italy in a Euro 2017 qualifier in Vicenza this afternoon, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles was an unused sub for the England U19s, also in a qualifier against Italy. Connolly came on as an 86th minute sub as the Irish youngsters chased an equaliser, the Italians having been reduced to 10 men 20 minutes before the end. Maitland-Niles was an unused sub as his side drew 0-0 with their Italian counterparts in the final game of their Euro 2016 qualifying group in Macedonia to confirm top spot, having already made it through to the next stage of qualifying. Elsewhere, keeper Jonathan Henly was left out of the Scotland U21 matchday squad for their qualifier against Iceland, while winger Ryan Fraser dropped out of the squad due to the knee injury which will sideline him for at least two months.
