Extension to Cobbold?
Extension to Cobbold?

Town are seeking to gain permission for an extension to the Cobbold Stand to house new facilities for away supporters. The development is dependent on finances, but if permission is given the corner between the Greene King and Cobbold Stands will see a new stilted structure.

Away fans have long criticised the facilities provided by Town as somewhat old-fashioned. With Town's capacity up to 30,000 by the end of the season the number of away fans will have to be increased to 3,000 and the new three-storey tall building, similar in style to the Police Control Box at the Britannia/Greene King corner, will provide ample facilities for them.

Anyone objecting to the development must put their views to Ipswich Borough Council before April 1st, however, if Town go down there is little likelihood that the Blues would have either the need or the finance for the structure.

The Cobbold Stand is now the oldest of the four Portman Road stands wuth the current structure opened in 1971. At the AGM two years ago David Sheepshanks said that this would be the next stand to be developed should Town need extra capacity and have the money in the future.
