No Final Day Deals at Town
Monday, 1st Feb 2016 23:10

The January transfer window closed at 11pm with no final day moves in or out of Portman Road.

As expected, claims of a £2 million move for Gillingham’s Bradley Dack proved to be wide of the mark. Later reports suggested Bristol City were the club to have had an offer for the 22-year-old midfielder turned down by the Gills.

Elsewhere, the Blues, Leeds and Bristol City were all reported to be showing loan interest in Sunderland right-back Adam Matthews.

According to the Shields Gazette, the Black Cats may be willing to allow the 24-year-old former Cardiff and Celtic man to go out on loan when the emergency provision is available to Football League clubs from Monday.

However, a right-back would seem an unlikely target for the Blues with Kevin Foley recently having signed.

The Wales international has made only one start in the Capital One Cup and one Championship sub appearance for the Wearsiders, both in August, since signing from Celtic for £2 million in the summer.

Meanwhile, Jordan Rhodes finally completed his stop-start move from Blackburn to Middlesbrough for an initial fee reported to be £9 million, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Town are set to receive a small sum as a result with the £8 million deal which saw the 25-year-old move to Ewood Park from Huddersfield in 2012 including a 20 per cent of profit sell-on clause.

The Blues also included a sell-on clause, understood to be 10 per cent of any profit, when Rhodes joined the Terriers in 2009 - for a fee which eventually rose to just over £1 million after top-ups and the sell-on - and if the figures quoted are correct should receive a further £20,000.

Ex-Town midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has joined the MK Dons on loan for the rest of the season from QPR.

Former Blues winger Lee Martin extended his loan from Millwall to League Two Northampton Town to the end of the campaign, having initially joined the Cobblers earlier in January.

Leicester’s Tom Lawrence completed a loan move to Cardiff City for the rest of the season, Town having been one of several Championship clubs linked over the weekend.

Bradley would have been a great goal scoring midfield signing and has a great last name even if I do say so myself

Given that clearly we haven't got the money that the likes of Boro & Derby has, I've no problem with that. With two players for every position in case of injury/poor performance let's keep a balanced side where possible and push on from here, and see where we end up in May. It's just a game after all, lads & lasses. 🚜⚽️

If by a miracle Dack comes he would soon be frozen out. Far too skilful.

I really hope we end up finishing mid table as much as that hurts me to say because then Mick and Marcus might actually realise that we're not good enough and then we have to spend some money.

When is Teddy Bishop gonna be fit, now that would be like a new signing! On other signings we only buy in the bargain basement so no real surprises there! I'd suspect a loan or two later on my be lined up to cover the play offs. A couple of wins will change the low mood no doubt. A couple of defeats mind will see Mick and the board under the most strain for some time. Hoping for the former of course!

The goal each season has to be promotion and certainly playoffs a minimum .MM and the club think they have the players to do this so good luck to them I hope they are right and will have my support at all games I attend . Personally think they have a very limited squad and will find it hard to make the playoffs , only time will tell

I really think we are going to struggle to get playoffs. All we can hope for is bishop and mcgoldrick miraculously get fit to give us some creativity other than Fraser. Not holding my breath.

It feels like McGoldrick and Bishop left in the Summer! They must be gagging to get back...
Such a shame they're out and Fraser was injured, but as Mick feels there's no one better out there he can afford to buy, we will have to wait and hope...and wait. And hope...!

Wouldn't we need a squad of 24 before we had 2 players for every position ?

Meant 22 but you get my point

Oh well that's more hoof ball till the end of the season then.
Another opportunity lost, such a lack of ambition shown by both owner and management in my opinion.
Do we really have a squad strong enough for a top two finish.
We struggle to find cover for injuries now, what happens if/when we lose a couple of more to season long lay offs, and don't say it won't happen because it could.
I don't believe it when MM says he's happy with his squad, no manager should be unless their winning games convincingly week in week out.
Rant over.

Still at least we shall sit well within the financial fair play requirements!
Must be making a profit with players released and zilch coming in to replace them.
Very disappointing.

I sense that the Club's financial situation must have suffered some sort of further setback of which we are unaware.

This was expected as McCarthy as good as said in his last interview.
He says that he cannot improve on his squad with the money at his disposal, whilst Milne says there is.Who do we believe;but it cant be much if we couldn't match MK Dons bid for JW who MM has long admired and had said previously he would get back if available.

Mick has hinted that he is more interested in the loan window which opens in a weeks time;so lets hope Evans short arms can reach down to the bottom of his deep pockets for a change,as spending by this manager is on a par with the mid eighties,30 years ago when a lot of supporters on here were probably in short trousers?

I cannot fathom the tightening of the purse strings now,yes previously under FFP when the overspend allowed was £6m;but now its been increased to nearly 40k over 3 years which is more than double on a yearly basis. Also unlike the Robson years(bless him) there is nobody coming through from the Youth Team, apart from Bishop who cannot be relied upon because of injury. The late Sir Bob only needed to buy about one player a year
as the rest of the players were home grown.

Lets hope that the 'Town' can get a win tomorrow to keep the dream alive;but the important thing is where the club are come the beginning of May.If its in the top 6 then Mickmac will have worked wonders;but if not more questions will be asked by me,and I suspect many others as to the direction our beloved club is taking.

Ridiculous. Obviously got no ambition to be anything more than a mid table team and I'm sick of it. Much like last season, this squad is decent but lacks a couple of quality additions to take us to the next level and be proper contenders. Whether McCarthy doesn't want to spend any funds or if it's Evans that has completely checked out and given up on this club I don't know. We've lost two decent players in Jonny Parr and Tommy Oar and got absolutely nothing to replace them. Even by some miracle we make the playoffs again, we have no chance of promotion again. Not happy at all!!!

No strength in depth and 1 or 2 injuries and its all over ,i am just glad we have enough points to stay up this season.

Oh dear. Looks like we will be seeing lots more of Coke and co between now and the end of the season. At least we are well clear of the relegation trap door.
