McCarthy Irked By Lack of Media Coverage
Friday, 5th Feb 2016 13:56

Boss Mick McCarthy believes the Blues aren’t getting the national media coverage they deserve given that they’ve spent most of the season in and around the play-off zone. Tuesday’s 2-1 home victory over Reading saw Town return to sixth.

“The national paper I had, and I’m not going to name it, didn’t have a word on our win against Reading, not a word,” McCarthy told Ipswich Player HD.

“We are in the play-off places but not word on us at all. Am I bitter and twisted about that? Too right I am! It does irk me.

“We played Brighton here and we were top and they were second and there wasn’t a camera in sight in our press conference before the game. That really irked me. I thought, is that the interest in the Championship then?"

He's talking about newspaper reports and pre/post match press coverage, he's not talking about actual highlights of the game, so why would style of play be relevant?

The national media tend to get excited about attractive, brave, swaggering, swashbuckling football.

Are you on the verge of spotting what might be up here?

No it was the MAIL and had nothing to do with style of play etc they just decided not to include our result. This has happened before in the same paper esp when we had higher profile game! Its a horrid paper that just cant get enough of the Premiership and rarely gives our division much spce, if any!!

Most of the papers focus on the PL.

The Premier League has all the money, all of the better players and all of the glamour so its no real surprise that the Championship in general only tends to have a small section of coverage in most papers.

What annoys me is that the Scotish Premier League gets at least some coverage on the national news whilst the championship gets ignored....apart from Leeds that is

Soon as we get praise/coverage etc, our donuts would slip up, so content to keep winning I reckon

Media always obsessed with the same teams, in the championship it tends to be the likes of Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday, absolutely obsessed with them.

We'll keep going under the radar like last season but hopefully go one better!

Whoops Mr McCarthy seems to be getting irked by lots at the moment! Fans, coverage, Tommy Oar (😊) ........ maybe not worry, keep quiet & keep under the radar. We only seem to mess it up when the spotlight is on us.
Maybe if we had had a home FA cup tie to Bournemouth last weekend we may have got some coverage ?!?!

They're only interested in the 'big club' prem dropouts, or those spunking bucketloads of rule-breaking cash. Even Burnley don't get half the attention Derby do.

You don't get mentioned when you play crap football what does he expect McCarthy out

I would guess Mick has the Daily Mail as that mentioned every other game on Tuesday evening except ours.

And to the people on this thread saying we play crap football, we won didn't we?

It's funny we were always on the sports bulletin on sky and also in the nationals when Keano was in charge yet we were further down the table . Strange that must have something to do with managers personality .

If you think we're the longest serving club in the division, we don't splash the cash on big name signings & we play a brand of football that quite often isn't pretty on the eye.

They are the reasons but why are we bothered? just go about our business quietly & if we keep grinding results out we'll be in the mix at the end of the season.

Surprised by these comments, didn't think this would be the sort of thing that would bother Mick.

Certainly disappointing there wasn't a match report. Perhaps the edition of his paper the report missed the first print?

Clearly we wouldn't have featured too heavily elsewhere in January as it's mainly about transfers and we weren't active.

Shocked to see some "McCarthy out" comments here. No offense at all, but you must be either insane or an idiot to mean that.
