Dozzell Skippers and Morris Wins First Cap as England U17s Draw
Friday, 5th Feb 2016 17:43

Midfielder Andre Dozzell skippered and striker Ben Morris won his first cap as the England U17s drew 1-1 with hosts Portugal in their opening game at the Torneio Internacional do Algarve this afternoon. The third Town player in the squad, keeper Nick Hayes, was an unused sub.

The Portuguese went ahead early on through Miguel Luis but Tottenham’s Samuel Shashoua hit back a minute after the break.

Hayes

Dozzell, son of former Blue and current academy coach Jason, has now won seven caps at U17 level, while keeper Hayes has won two. Morris's cap was his first at any level.

The England youngsters next face Germany on Sunday and then Holland on Tuesday.

Any chance of any of them getting an outing with the first team?

I know; daft question.

A good show by both players but for me Ben Morris stood out often as a lone striker, very quick off the shoulder of the last defender and worked his socks off!!

Well done to both

Remember when the whole first team were internationals apart from the goalie, those real were the days!

But one glimmer is that very few of this squad are from clubs outside of the Premiership if you look. And we have three. Can only hope this is a sign of better days ahead and a return to a thriving academy.
