Bishop Hoping to Play Part in Top Six Push
Wednesday, 10th Feb 2016 09:04

Midfielder Teddy Bishop hopes he can play a part in helping the Blues finish in the top six as he finally closes in on a return to action after missing the entire season so far through injury.

The 19-year-old admits it’s been a frustrating campaign, having made his breakthrough into the the Town senior set-up and then having become a regular in the side during 2014/15.

“Everyone says injuries are physical but the mental side has been the hardest for me,” he told Ipswich Player HD

“I’ve had a few setbacks and dealing with them and explaining to people that I’ve broken down has been hard.

“It’s been horrible having to watch the lads go out training and playing games and not being part of that.

“It’s been an accumulation of injuries that I’ve had. I had shin splints, trouble with my knee and I’ve obviously had the hamstring problems.

“I came back a bit early the first time I tore it and then it went again when I was getting close to playing again.

“We’ve got to make sure it’s 100 per cent right before I start playing games this time but I’m getting there.

“I feel I’m finally on the up. I did my first run yesterday and I’ve done a lot of strengthening work and I’m feeling good.

“Hopefully I’ll be outside with the others in the next couple of weeks and then get some U21 football in me. My general fitness levels are pretty good so it will be just making sure the hamstring is right and then getting match fitness.

“We’ve still got a lot of games left and we are pushing for the play-off places again. I just want to get back involved as soon as I can and hopefully I can play a part in us getting into the top six.”

Like a new signing but still not match fit, shame.

Can't see him playing this season. As he's not due to be starting training again until March, and then having to play U21 games to get match fit, surely this will only give him a handful of games max for this season.
Surely it would be wiser to not risk him for this season and concentrate on getting fully fit for next season.

These guys are athletes nowadays - once the injury has cleared its only a case of 2 or 3 weeks training with the first team. You have to remember that the squad play 11v11 in training so these u21 games aren't that important. I'm certain that we'll see him coming off the bench by the end of March.

I think the season we can put out a midfield of dozell, Bishop and hyam, we will get promoted. Probably need a change of manager as well though.

A few of the younger players seem to have picked up lengthy injuries — Bishop, Hammond, Kenyu, as well as a couple more which I have read on TWTD. Not sure if this is just a coincidence or if the training is too physical.

Once fully fit Bishop (and hopefully McGoldrick) should start as they are without doubt our best players — not including loans. And in my opinion they should always start in their best positions.

I'm not going to lie, when we have a fully fit squad, it does look very promising, but the style of football the manager wants to play doesn't suit the players we have. Bishop, Bru, Sears, Mcgoldrick are just some of the players who can easily play attractive football and make it a joy for us to watch.

Hope you're back firing again soon Teddy!

Nice to see the lad being positive, which in his position you have to.

The optimist in me says hope he is right and we get him back as he hopes, although the realist in me says he may break down yet again.

His injury problems are worrying in one so young as this could ruin his promising career before it really got started.

It is a fact that some players like Cressey ,Tommy Smith,Berra, and Luke Chambers go through their careers with few if any injuries;whereas you have Keiron Dyer,Didsy,Sturridge,Woody(who is just back playing after 3 months out at Southend),and to a lesser extent Ryan Fraser and Jonny Williams being regularly out.

It seems defenders, probably by their build, who suffer least;wheras the slighter players seem to suffer more

Lets hope though that he is back this season as we have missed him.

Great news but time is running out. Even when fit he will lack match sharpness. This sounds like a PR spin again, get Bishop to say he hopes to play a part. Softens the blow of the abysmal transfer strategy in January. The club have let everyone down.

If he only did his first run yesterday he must be way off match fitness. I would be surprised if we see him in action before the middle of March.
