Fraser Out for Six to Eight Weeks
Wednesday, 10th Feb 2016 17:41

Winger Ryan Fraser is facing six to eight weeks out with the hamstring injury he suffered in the closing stages of Saturday’s 1-0 loss at QPR.

Town have yet to confirm the length of Fraser’s expected absence, however, the Bournemouth Echo is reporting that the Scotland U21 international, who is on loan with the Blues from AFC Bournemouth for the season, will be sidelined for six to eight weeks having undergone a scan earlier in the week.

The Scotland U21 international is likely to return to the Cherries for his rehab, as he did earlier in the season when he suffered a knee injury.

Fraser's absence until late March or early April is a significant blow to the Blues with the ex-Aberdeen wideman having enjoyed a hugely impressive season and the favourite for the club's Player of the Year gong.

As revealed yesterday, Town are set to land Fulham's Ben Pringle on loan as cover while the 21-year-old is unavailable.

So he might just make the last 3 league games and any PO games with might be involved in then. But seeing how it's a hamstring tear I wouldn't be holding my breath on this at all.

I know many won't agree but the injuries to Fraser, Bishop and McGoldrick are poof that the club got it wrong by having such a small squad. All squads get injuries and I just hope that this summer we set ourselves up better prepared to cope with the injuries that will come next season.

They always over estimate injury layoffs, they will aim to have him back by after the international break.

He should be fit for the last 8 game stretch, not ideal by any means but that means he will miss the next seven or eight games.

Five of which are against bottom eight sides in the league.

BossMan - I don't think many will disagree with you at all. At the start of the window the squad didn't look too bad. I think the problem we had was the unexpected departures of Parr and Oar both of who could have filled in and the club didn't act on that in time more than anything.

We have a small squad, we all know that. We will miss him badly, just like we did earlier in the season. Pringle is a good signing, but he is not on the level of Fraser. In the summer, we need to strengthen, make permanent signings who are young or in their prime. Don't get me wrong, loans are okay, but we can't rely on them.

What a great shame for a wonderful little player who get's bums of seats I really hope that when he is fit we still have something to play for, if Pringle comes in then I wish him well and hope his contribution is as whole hearted as Fraser has given us.

I'm not sure who gave you a minus Bossman because you're exactly right.

The sad reality is, plus the other injuries, this is the end of our play-off chances. I'm sure you'll all think this is a pessimistic view but it's a very realistic one. He's been too big a player to replace with some form the loan market and although we're 7th, we're not firing well enough at the time of the season we need to be given our fixture run in.

For those that cry "unbeliever", i think i've got a more down to earth view given some of the games i've watched recently. Any hope of top 6 will be on teams fairing worse than us i reckon.

Keanish: 'he's been too big a player to replace from the loan market'.

Where do you think we got him from in the first place to be fair?

jas0999 added 18:32 - Feb 10
Won't see him for many more games this season. I wish him a speedy recovery. What a shame we didn't strengthen in the January window. Emergency loans are all well and good, but they are just that. We should have signed quality additions, just like our competitors. Seems like we were determined to rely on no injuries and it's backfired big time.

Bossman .. take a look at the squad list. There are 37 names down there. It is not a small squad but a huge squad.

The trouble is those who aren't already first teamers, injured or out on loan are just not up to making the break into the first team.

Will Bournemouth have a say in when he is ready to return?

I wonder what Oar is thinking at the moment? He could have had a good run and been all set for next season.
Shame.

Gutted feel confident of winning games with him in the side but now we are pretty screwed. Just hope the under performers in our team really start performing and we can stay within touching distance of those play offs for when he comes back. Still got to believe i guess

Following my analysis of Bart v Dean last week, I thought I'd quickly compare how we fair in terms of a few statistics with and without Ryan Fraser. Firstly Fraser's league stats this season:

RYAN FRASER (2015/16)

Apps: 18
Minutes: 1239
Goals: 4 (One goal every 310 minutes)
Assists: 2 (One assist every 620 minutes)
Total Shots: 39 (One shot every 32 minutes)
Shots on Target: 22 (One SOT every 56 minutes)
Chances Created 34 (One chance created every 36 minutes)

[With Fraser = all starts and subbed on/off appearances]

WITH FRASER team stats (18 games):

Games W/D/L: 8/5/5 (44.4% wins)
Average points: 1.61
Goals scored: 1.28
Goals Conceded 1.33
Attempts at Goal: 14.3
Shots on Target: 4.6
Corners: 6.9
Goals to Shots on Target Ratio: 28.0%

WITHOUT FRASER team stats (12 games):

Games W/D/L: 5/4/3 (41.6% wins)
Average points: 1.58
Goals scored: 1.33
Goals Conceded 1.08
Attempts at Goal: 12.8
Shots on Target: 4.8
Corners: 4.5
Goals to Shots on Target Ratio: 27.6%

Points taken from these statistics:

> Points won per game on average hardly differ with or without Fraser (1.61 with and 1.58 without)
> We score an average of 1.3 goals per game both with and without Fraser.
> We concede on average 19% less goals without Fraser in the side (possibly due to the committed attacking play with him in the team).
> We average 10% more shots per game with Fraser in the team.
> However we actually have more shots on target per game without Fraser on average.
> We win 6.9 Corners per game with Fraser and only 4.5 without, a drop of 35%.
> Goals to Shots or Target averages stay level at around 28%.

Many are writing off our chances of making the playoffs because of Ryan's injury but the statistics show that with or without him we do not fair too differently. If anything we are tighter at the back and have greater accuracy on goal.

If that's not a better formula of winning games I don't know what is - hopefully that makes everyone a little more positive!

Delighted !! As I honestly thought his season was completely done and dusted.

The sooner this lad gets back into the side / fully fit ready to pull peoples pants down again the better.

Romfordblue - i'm not sure i understand your point.

Any loan player coming in to replace Fraser has got a standing start on where he left off. Whoever comes in has to get match fit if not already, gel with the squad and MM's style of play and turn out the performances to the magnitude Fraser has. It's not going to happen.

We have lost a quality player, and one who is the type of player that it is essential to our team. We must gave quality wingers given that our attacking threat through the middle is somewhat limited. Otherwise just hoof ball. Not sure Pringles is the answer, not as an out and out winger who can stretch defences, run at players, and get a decent crosses. That said I understand that Pringle is a good crosser of the ball from deadball situations. Other qualities?

Quality player - but will have his fair share of injuries.

Bournemouth will be well aware of that fact - probably why he is with us this season, and not them.

seems we lose a key player on the run in every bloody year.Lets hope Mick can pull a rabbit out of the hat and not a bunch of wallflowers in loan market .
