Dozzell and Morris in England U17 Squad
Thursday, 3rd Mar 2016 12:24

Academy duo Andre Dozzell and Ben Morris have been named in the England U17 squad for their Euro 2016 elite qualifying mini-tournament later this month.

England are the hosts and take on Turkey at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium on Thursday 24th March, then Finland at Leek Town’s Harrison Park two days later, before their final game against Ukraine at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday 29th March.

The teams which finish top of their groups and the best second-placed sides will go through to the finals in Azerbaijan in May.

The England youngsters topped their group in the first qualifying round in Portugal in October last year and last month drew with Germany and the Portuguese and lost 2-0 to Holland at the Torneio Internacional do Algarve where Dozzell, the son of former Blue and current academy coach Jason, skippered the side.

Midfielder Dozzell, who travelled with the Town first team squad to Huddersfield last week and has been handed squad number 41, has won nine England U17 caps while striker Morris, who has scored 17 goals this season, has won three.

Blues keeper Nick Hayes, who has three caps at U17 level, is on standby.

England U17s: Jared Thompson (Chelsea), Adam Parkes (Southampton), Japhet Tanganga (Tottenham Hotspur), Edward Francis (Manchester City), Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea), Tolaji Bola (Arsenal), Jaden Brown (Tottenham Hotspur), Dujon Sterling (Chelsea), Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham), Marcus McGuane (Arsenal), Andre Dozzell (Ipswich Town), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Dennis Adeniran (Fulham), Reiss Nelson (Arsenal), Samuel Shashoua (Tottenham Hotspur), Martell Taylor-Crossdale (Chelsea), Ben Morris (Ipswich Town), Jonathan Leko (West Bromwich Albion).

Great news. Well done to both the lads.

As they have now been given squad numbers let's hope they will soon get a try out with the first team. After all Andre's dad was very young when he started playing for Town.

I hope they both stay with Town for a few years and don't get snapped up by Prem teams.

Only 2 clubs, ourselves and Fulham, outside of Prem, providing players.Think last time Ipswich had most players with 3,although this time it's Chelsea with 5.

This should bode well for future, although our present manager has only managed to bring one player through in 3 1/2 years,Teddy Bishop, and he never plays; so it is as bad as I can remember since wor Jackie Milburn started the youth set up in the early 1960's

Not the set up itself, but the Managers utilisation of it

Seasider, if Teddy was fit then I'm sure he would play... I don't doubt that we need to look at our youth more but we have some promising players out on loan and some decent kids coming through. It remains to be seen if these youngsters will make the first team but I think Mick sees players like Clarke and Yowerth as potential first team players in the not too distant future.
