Murphy a Doubt for Wolves Trip
Tuesday, 29th Mar 2016 09:20

Town have confirmed that striker Daryl Murphy is a doubt ahead of Saturday’s game at Wolves having suffered a tear to his calf while playing for the Republic of Ireland in their 1-0 friendly victory over Switzerland on Friday.

The 33-year-old, who was winning his 20th cap, came on as a sub in the 27th minute after Kevin Doyle suffered an ankle injury but made way himself with a tight calf 11 minutes from time.

Murphy returned to Town over the weekend having been ruled out of Ireland’s second friendly against Slovakia on Tuesday, also in Dublin.

“Murph has a tear in his calf but we have no timescale over the injury at the moment,” Town physio Matt Byard told the club site.

“We are looking to get him scanned again on Tuesday and we will know more from there but needless to say, there has to be a concern about him for the weekend.”

Murphy recently missed the games against Nottingham Forest and Bolton, also due to a calf problem.

Meanwhile, Wolves keeper Carl Ikeme is a doubt for Saturday having picked up a stomach bug while away on international duty with Nigeria.

If that is the case, lets play Searsy up top!! Show some aspiration Mick and play people where they should be and... GO FOR THE WIN!!

We are now at the point where injuries really dont matter a great deal and yet they still keep coming

When Murph is out of the side we miss one of our best players when defending corners and freekicks

A big loss. We miss Murphy and although it gives Sears a chance to start up front, he with Pitman have not dazzled when Murph was out for a few games recently. Apart from the narrow win over Forrest when we passed the ball around, the rest of the games were poor and Murphy's return made an impact. Maybe with McGoldrick's skill and passing vision, he can supply the strikers.

Very bad news. Will be missed for defensive duties.Lets just hope MM will go for broke and play FS up front with Feeney and Pringle on the wings with Foley and Scuse in the middle. Not sure the best partner for Sears though.I fear if we loose this game it will be season over,so MM MUST go for a win.COYB.

A good player lost because of an injury sustained in a Mickey Mouse game.

says it all really doesn't it when our main striker will be missed for his defensive duties, and his ability to score goals!

Get some decent CB'S in over the summer and play Freddie Sears in his rightful position. UP FRONT!

Disappointing news. Thank goodness McGoldrick is likely to be back on the bench, otherwise we would have little back up.

pity, after his two goals against Blackburn I though Murph could be at a start of a good run, then again we had Rotterham! Sears and Pitman can do the job if given the right delivery.

Bad news.

Start Varney with Sears. Varney has looked sharp when he has come on of late plus he is desperate for another year here. I'd give him an hour. Pitman or McGoldrick to come on. Agree with essexboy on Midfield. That's what I'd do anyway, but, fairly obviously, I'm not the manager.

If no Murphy, then how about playing some football via the midfield? We have become a one-trick pony team for too long now - yes it got us in the play-offs last season - but it's time to see if you actually have a Plan B

the positive with this is that we may actually play some football rather than inclined to lump it forward to Murphy. Played some of our best football of the season vs Forest when Murphy was out.

Surely you should be happy with a point from an Away game!

In agreement with Elto. Our only target man is Varney and altering our style of play will not pay dividends against Wolves.

Yes let's alter our style of play in the summer, not before a must win game at Wolves. Varney in for Murphy, play Sears up to with him and be positive in midfield. Only play 1 of Skuse, Douglas or Hyam and have 3 midfielders who want to get forward and attack (Pringle, Feeney and Bru). Hopefully give DM a burst for the final 20 mins.

Blessing in disguise, might actually have to pass the ball along the floor for more than 2 passes.
