Bru Misses Mauritius Qualifier Through Injury

Blues midfielder Kevin Bru was missing from the Mauritius side which lost 5-0 to Rwanda in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Kigali this afternoon, due to an injury.

No details of the knock have yet emerged, Bru having provided the assist which led to the winning goal in Saturday's 1-0 home victory over the same opposition as he won his sixth cap. Bru will be assessed when he returns to the club on Thursday.

This international break has already seen Blues striker Daryl Murphy suffer a calf injury while away with the Republic of Ireland which could rule him out of Saturday's game at Wolves.

I hate these internationals. In the olden days the manager picked eleven players and they played in the home internationals. There were no minor warm up matches and no substitutes. Boots had studs with six nails in them and the toe caps were hard, and ankles were protected by thick leather. I don't remember so many injuries as we get now, but my memory is a bit ropey.

I agree we have been unlucky with injuries, but that's why you need quality in depth and as we found out from the cup games, we really do lack it. Will MM and ME learn this summer? Two seasons running where some injuries have ended up being costly. The frustration in my opinion, is we knew about some of them in January.

Bru started the season well, but has been somewhat inconsistent in 2016, but has also been played out of position. Nonetheless he is creative, something a lot of our central midfielders lack.
