McGoldrick Could Feature for U21s
Wednesday, 30th Mar 2016 09:41

Striker David McGoldrick could play for Town’s U21s against Crewe Alexandra at Playford Road this afternoon as he continues his comeback from the hamstring injury which has kept him out of action since mid-December (KO 1pm).

McGoldrick, 28, played the full 90 minutes for the U21s in last week’s 1-1 draw with his former club Nottingham Forest and impressed.

Manager Mick McCarthy has said that if all goes to plan McGoldrick could make his return to the first team squad at Wolves on Saturday.

Also making progress is midfielder Teddy Bishop, who has hinted on social media that he is finally closing in on a return to action after a frustrating injury-hit season.

The 19-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance, while his most recent U21s game was back in October.

Meanwhile, Blues boss Mick McCarthy is the 6-1 third favourite for the Aston Villa manager’s job with some bookies at the time of writing.

Ex-Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes is the 2-1 favourite for the position which became vacant when Remi Garde left by mutual consent last night with former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson the 9-4 second favourite.

Elsewhere, Town defender Piotr Malarczyk could make his debut for his loan club Southend United at home to Sheffield United in League One this evening having joined up with the Shrimpers over the weekend.

Hopefully back and back to stay. We've missed a fit McGoldrick, Bishop all season, and Fraser a lot of it. Very much a chance of what could have been.

Can only be good having McGoldrick back but he does seem very injury prone sadly.

Too much to hope that Villa swoop for McCarthy. or that he'd opt to go there, unfortunately.

Mick,
Follow A14 West to the M6
Follow M6 to junction 6 and exit onto A38 Aston Expressway. Villa Park is ahead to your right. If you need a lift , just ask.

Great news. He managed 90 minutes last time so this should help him get back to full fitness.

Hopefully he will then be able to get at least 30 minutes on Saturday. With Murph injured we need him back!

Hope Didz gets a good run out today and is raring to go on Saturday against Wolves - I'd start him alongside Sears and hopefully we might actually play it to feet rather than looking for the constant knock-downs. Pitman looks better coming off the bench, so can replace him later on if tiring.

Good to have him back as an option.

I think Moyes is the ideal candidate for Villa, and if he wants the job, he'll be the one to get it. Mick won't be going there. Sorry to disappoint those of you who would like to see the back of him.

I'm really not holding my breath anymore regarding McGoldrick. He's spent more time out injured than he has been fit and playing for us. I see no change in this trend tbh . it's just another cameo appearance before the next injury. In the summer, get rid because it doesn't matter how skillful he is, if he's never fit for long enough to string a dozen games together , what's the point in keeping him. He is undoubtedly one of our higher wage earners. Forest were no mugs in offloading him that's for sure.
This might all seem harsh to some you Didsy fans out there but sadly the stats tell the true story of this players contribution to Town's quest to get promoted. He's rarely fit enough to play and the only reason he's putting himself about now is because he wants to go to the Euros this summer.

I'd like to see MM go, and I'd certainly think he'd be interested in another job in the Midlands. If he did go then I'd like us to get in a young innovative coach and ME set out a 5 year plan for the club. Breed through some youth with the odd signing here and there. What frustrates the fans most is this "we'll take each game/season as it comes and hope for the best" ideology.

Lol Mr Evans. 'Breed through some youth'. Any volunteers? I've had a go and failed miserably.

All the McCarthy out gang careful what you wish for.

As for the person offering to give Mick a lift, I doubt you'd wanna be stuck in a car with him he would intimidate the life out of you and make that journey very uncomfortable.

Embarrassing.
