Wednesday, 4th May 2016 14:12

The FA have confirmed the England U17s squad for the European Championships which start later this week in Azerbaijan which, as previously reported, includes Town pair Andre Dozzell and Ben Morris.

Midfielder Dozzell, who turned 17 on Monday and signed a two-year professional contract, has previously won 12 U17s caps, scoring three goals, while striker Morris, 16, has played six games for the U17s but so far without finding the net.

“I’m looking forward to the tournament. We’ve got a chance to do well,” Dozzell told the club site.

“Most of the players in the squad come from big clubs but there are a few Championship players as well.”

The England U17s play their first game against Sweden on Friday, then face France three days later, before they complete their group fixtures with a match against Denmark on Thursday 12th May.

In addition to Dozzell being named in the initial squad and Morris being called up at the weekend, another first-year scholar, keeper Nick Hayes, and schoolboy midfielder Tristan Nydam were on standby ahead of the tournament.

Back in 2010, then-Blues striker Connor Wickham scored the goal which won the England U17s the European Championships for the first time in Liechtenstein.

Elsewhere, former Town defender John McGreal has been named the new head coach at Colchester United, having previously been in charge of their U21s.

McGreal will be working alongside another ex-Town central defender Tony Humes, who returned to the U's as director of football in March.

It's great to see two Ipswich players in there with all the Chelsea and Arsenal youngsters, good luck in the tournament lads.
