McDonnell Handed League Debut at Derby and Kenlock Again Set to Start
Thursday, 5th May 2016 13:20

Town boss Mick McCarthy will hand Irish U18 international Adam McDonnell his league debut at Derby on Saturday, while Myles Kenlock will continue at left-back with Jonas Knudsen still expected to be out with a knee problem.

“Adam is starting on Saturday,” the Town boss confirmed. “We think a lot of him, he’s not had his opportunity but he will start on Saturday.

McCarthy has already confirmed that the 18-year-old former Shelbourne central midfielder, whose only senior appearance for Town was at Doncaster in the Capital One Cup, will be offered a new contract, while the club has already taken an option for a further year on his existing deal.

Knudsen is again set to miss out, but skipper Luke Chambers will be back having been sidelined for the MK Dons game by an ankle problem.

“Chambo’s fine but Jonas has still got a bit of an issue with his knee, so he’ll probably not be involved,” McCarthy said.

The Town boss was delighted with Kenlock’s performance last week and the 19-year-old will again be in the side against the Rams.

“It was great watching him play last week,” he continued. “I thought he got better in the game.

“I thought Josh Emmanuel had a really good first half and Myles equally had a really good second half and set up the winner, which was great for him.

“We’ve got a clean bill of health apart from Murph and the other ones that were injured, they’re still injured.”

So will Bart be back in goal?

Should've been last week, of course, as player of the year on all fronts, in the final home game of the season...

Why is Chambers back in for Emmanuel, FFS Dino...

Would be good if Gerken moves on in the summer to make this goalkeeper situation a lot clearer to MM. Memo to MM - Bart is number 1 and should always play when available

We can't change our league position and Derby's position is set, so why not play Emmanuel again? Drop Berra FFS!!

Agree with Kenlock playing but Emmanuel earned his chance to continue n the team IMO so should be starting. Why play a centre back at right back who's not that good rather than a young right back at right back who is good.

Still I'm pleased for McDonnell, deserves his opportunity and it's nice to see all these youngsters on the fringes that seem like their ready to step up in the next few years.

Not true JimmyJazz... We could still move up to 7th if Cardiff lose to Birmingham and we win.

Call yourself the 12th man? ^

Maybe they will, but they deserve the chance they getting and I'm sure they'll put in a great performance.

I hope Dozzell gets a good few minutes.

Pleased we're using the academy again, clear a few out and we'll be set for more to develop.

I have a good feeling about next season, think people may be pleasantly surprised.

Also, McDonnell was supposedly meant to have similar ability to Bishop. Incidently, Teddy made his debut at Derby and was superb first 60 minutes, one of the best debutants I can recall in recent years. Good luck to the lad, hope he shines.

Dozzell is away with England U17s I think.

I have seen kenlock in a few u21 games and the firs team games and think he is really starting to establish himself. I would much rather see him in the team ahead of Knudsen although I'm sure loads will disagree with me.

Great to see McDonnell in the team he deserves his chance even if it is to get his m up to speed of the bench next year.

Agree with everyone about Bart. Currie/Elto correct Dozzell is with the u17s.

Last call - can the following passengers make their way to gate 1 as the last coach leaving Ipswich is about to depart: - Mr McCarthy, Stewart, Gerken, Maitland-Niles, Coke, Toure, Tabb, Douglas, Varney, Hyam and Digby. Its a one way ticket and we hope you have a pleasant journey!

Onthehoof nothing wrong with Digby had a belter at boro and kept a clean sheet against the two most prolific strikers to play against us, clown

I'd rather bring on the youngsters with a few experienced players and play good football and be mid table for a season before the youth comes to fruition than hoofball and has beens. it looks like we have some good youngsters coming through why not play them. If they're good enough they're old enough. Just looks at spurs youngster's atm.

Did give Diggers some thought Skuserightpeg but we have Yorweth and Clarke coming back (presumably).

C Blue - I am driving the bus so I guess you did not get a return ticket :)

Onthehoof-Yorwerth has been told he can go, Digby looks set to stay. Delighted for Mcdonnell, lookimg to see him play and he would seem to bethe obvious one who has notbeen too involved so far, and Benyu maybe.

Thanks Mojo. Agree we have got a lot of young talent and that is what we need to bring through now. Looking forward to seeing more of them in the team - McDonell, Morris, Benyu, Emmanuel, Kenlock, Dozzell, Bishop (back from injury) etc etc

Chambers is straight back in there, You can't leave your star defender out for too long Mick.
Garentee Gerken will be in the team as well!
Hope McDonell & Kenlock play just be disappointed if Emanuel doesn't get a run out.
