Chambo Delighted for Leicester and Big Mate Wes
Friday, 6th May 2016 13:34

Town skipper Luke Chambers has been invited to a Premier League-winning party by good friend and Leicester counterpart Wes Morgan.

The pair have been pals since they played together at Nottingham Forest and Chambers was quick to congratulate the Foxes’ defender on Monday evening when nearest challengers Tottenham could only draw at Chelsea, meaning Claudio Ranieri’s men were English champions for the first time in their history.

Chambers said: “I got a text from him this morning [Thursday]. I think he’d just woken up after three days of celebrating! He’s having a little get-together on Sunday and he said if I’m about I should go up and join in the celebration. But I’m not sure I will make it to the party — it might be a bit wild for me!

“I can’t believe the story — it’s just absolutely fantastic because I know quite a lot of the Leicester boys from playing against them and in the case of Wes he’s a big mate of mine.

“I can’t wait to see him lift the Premier League trophy, it’s just so bizarre and the smile hasn’t been off my face since Monday night. I’m so, so pleased for him.

“It shows dreams can come true. I always felt that when they got promoted from the Championship they were a very, very good team.

“They blitzed the Championship away but in the Premier League they didn’t particularly play in the same way that had got them promoted.

“Then in the last nine games, when they won seven of them to stay up, they abandoned all their plans and went back to the blueprint that had got them promoted in the first place, sitting in and hitting teams on the break. With the quality they have they are still continuing to do that.

“People were writing them off, saying they would blow up and that either Spurs or Arsenal would win it, but in my opinion that never looked like happening.

“It’s just amazing that something like this can happen and hopefully it will change the stronghold on the game at the top level. It shows that anything is possible.”

Chambers and Morgan in action for Forest

With Leicester poised to rub shoulders with Europe’s elite in the Champions League next season, it was suggested to Chambers that he might be in a position to ask Morgan for tickets to such exotic venues as the Nou Camp or Bernabeu.

The Town skipper laughed: “Nou Camp or Bernabeu? If Wes is playing there I’ll probably be here, there and bloody everywhere on a Tuesday night next season in the Championship — and often with a seven-hour trip to get home!”

Meanwhile, Chambers has confirmed that he and his colleagues will continue to train, albeit not at the sort of intensity they are used to during the season, in preparation for the return to pre-season preparations at the club’s Playford Road training ground on June 27th.

He added: “We are advised to have two weeks of complete rest but I don’t know whether I’ll be able to do that with a young family.

“We have a programme and we will start working properly about a month before we come back for the start of pre-season training.

“I’m off on holiday on June 10th and I’ll be off every morning running up and down hills and along the beach. Not something I’ll necessarily enjoy but it’s got to be done.

“I’m going to the south of Spain with my wife and children, plus my parents and my in-laws. I’m looking forward to it, to get over the disappointment of us not being able to match what we achieved last season and getting to where we want to be.

"I hope our fans have a good summer and I look forward to seeing them again for the new season.”

Absolutely buzzing for Leicester and what they have achieved, but can't believe Morgan was a bedrock of that team. He used to be a real donkey in the championship. I remember him completely losing his head when Murph got under his skin against Leicester and the way he used to get bullied by a young Connor Wickham when at forest. Can't believe he is now a premier league winner. Still well done to leicester
