Yorwerth Signs for Crawley
Wednesday, 1st Jun 2016 10:08

Ex-Town central defender Josh Yorwerth has rejoined his former loan club Crawley Town on a permanent basis, signing a one-year deal with an option for a further season. The 21-year-old’s Blues contract was recently terminated by mutual consent.

Yorwerth signed a two-year deal with Town last summer following a trial after leaving Cardiff and spent most of 2015/16 on loan in League Two with Crawley, where he made 24 starts and one sub appearance without scoring.

The Wales U21 international made three Capital One Cup starts for the Blues and scored on his debut against Stevenage last August.

New Crawley head coach Dermot Drummy is pleased to have added Yorwerth to his squad on a permanent basis.

“Josh is still relatively inexperienced in league terms but we definitely feel he is a player capable of improving a lot,” he told the Red Devils official site.

"He has got a lot of the attributes good defenders need and he's a winner. He also knows the club and quite a few of the lads who will be here next season which is important, so we’re delighted he’s on board.”

Yorwerth added: “I really enjoyed last season with the club. I played a lot of games and gained valuable experience.

“It was obviously disappointing to be released by Ipswich but when the new gaffer said he wanted to sign me I was happy to come back to Crawley.

“I’m really excited about next season. He has got some great plans on how he wants us to play and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

I would like to think we can have a little perspective re decisions with some of these players and the management. While we all like to see youth succeed, some people on here would have us playing the likes of us following every game -

Marriott
Hewitt
Yowerth

The absolute blubbing regarding Marriott in particular was ridiculous! Hewitt is back to league 2. Yowerth people deemed good enough based on Man Utd alone!

Perhaps some of these young lads aren't as good as it seems or many wouldn't be dropping down to league 2.

That said, I am excited by Kenlock / Dozzell / McDonnell and feel these three may have a very good chance of being part of the 22/24 next season.

Good luck Josh.

With you Currie, every manager has been vilified for letting young players go and in all honesty the only one of those where we were right to be hysterical was Rhodes, but we all knew RK knew F all about being a manger.

Whilst I hope all those players above succeed (Esp Marriot) most of them are allowed to go for a reason. It happens at all clubs (How else did we end up with Lee Martin?) and sadly just at all clubs some will slip through the net, let us not forget (and I realise its slightly different) Sir Bobby has Gazza here as a youth and passed on him and was offered the chance to sign Rudd Gullit when he was just coming through but didn't because of questions over his attitude.

I wish JY well but lets not forget he was a an inexpensive roll of the dice, MM is very good about giving players chance to come to the club and steak their claim to be offerd something more, its up to them to take it. Equally he is very go at letting players who need games go and play elsewhere. Plenty of managers would have kept the likes of Marriot and have them warming the bench or kicking it around in the development squad still, Mick lets them go and find somewhere to play and that I suspect is one of the reasons he remains popular with his ex players.

As he said with Freddy, sometimes you need to step back to step forward, Mick will let players do that because like him not as a manage he is a pretty decent bloke

I thought he looked decent shame as our defence looked dodgy at times need competition for places. Good luck Josh

Only one-year deal that's meaning something!

I am pleased for the lad and hope it works out for him there.

Shame he couldn't progress with us but we do have a lot of academy players coming through so we have to trust in Mick and the academy coaches.

Sir Bobby could have signed someone called Ian Rush after we played Chester in the FA Cup as well... Don't know what happened to him after!!

Sometimes they drop down and don't make it, others come back and bite you on the arse.

Didn't do a lot wrong, wasn't given enough playing time to do much right.
Guess Mick's made this decision based on U21 matches and training sessions.
Personally, I'd rather have let Berra go for a fee we could spend elsewhere and have Yorwerth as a squad player.

And you aren't the manager either Currie10. It's all about opinions. You dismiss Marriott but would he have been any worse than say the non scoring Varney?.

Notice that Jack Marriott has scored plenty of goals for Luton Town(mid teens).

I know he is playing in league 2,but on the few occasions I saw him looked like he had a quite a few goals in him even then, and being young could have improved with good coaching;however our esteemed Manager thought otherwise and he calls the shots.

Do feel that he has released quite a few players he has signed before their contracts are up,and without them having much first team experience(if any)with Ipswich Town.

More in fact than any Manager I can remember in over 50 years;but there you go,all the through put of players there has been since MM arrived gives Phil something to write about!

Currie10... Hewitt is a better RB than Chambers!

It does bug me that McCarthy seems to do this far more than I can ever remember anyone else doing it - sign a player never or rarely play him then next thing you hear contract cancelled by "mutual consent" and they are gone. Not saying any of them should have stayed but I question why we don't use the collective cash to get one proven player. It also calls into question the scouting reports.

We didn't sign Gullitt because we already had the overseas players allowed at the time, not his attitude. Robson really wanted him

While not a massive fan of Chambo at RB - but if Hewitt was so much better why is he playing at League 2 and didn't do much with his?

His final outing Right wing ( not his fault ) at Reading away he was absolutely horrific.

The reason we are seeing more of this is because the game has and is changing, far more players are released at the end of the season these days and that leads to large pool of available free transfers, which in turn has led to Towns transfer policy in recent seasons. Just because a player id free it doesn't automatically follow that there is no value attached.

Lots of good players are released, players in turn cant always dictate the terms (player depending of course) so a youngster who is out of contract cant expect that 3 year deal anymore, lots of players effectively have 1 yr fixed term contracts now.

If a player is young, free and not on asking for silly wages its much more likely that a club will take a punt, the problem with punts is that often they don't work out hence you have to take a few of them and you have to ensure there are not expensive ones, when it does work out its worth it, how many extra punts have Mings and Creswell been able to fund?

So many players slip through the net for so many reasons, look at Southampton who actually have one of the best academies of recent years in terms of the players they have produced, they let Mings go.. We as fans notice it more at our own club.

Curious, who were the overseas players we had that prevented signing Gullit?
