Team ITFC Cyclists Depart
Friday, 3rd Jun 2016 13:41

Team ITFC, led by Simon Milton and including fellow ex-Blues Terry Butcher, Titus Bramble and Alan Lee, left Portman Road at the start of the Ipswich to Amsterdam Cycle Challenge 2016 this morning.

The 250-mile four-day return trip, which will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Town’s UEFA Cup win, will join-up with Prostate Cancer UK's annual London to Amsterdam cycle and once in Holland will visit the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam where the final took place.

The 40 Team ITFC cyclists will then move on to the home of final opponents AZ Alkmaar, where there will be a game against their staff and fans, while Butcher is set to be reunited with former team-mates Frans Thijssen and Arnold Muhren.

It’s the third time the club has been involved in the London to Amsterdam Cycle Challenge, raising money for the Town Academy and Prostate Cancer UK. In June last year 67 cyclists made up Team ITFC and raised £140,000.

“We have invited Arnold Muhren and Frans Thijssen to join us to help celebrate the win and meet with AZ Alkmaar supporters and staff on Sunday,” Milton told the club site.

“It is Titus’s first cycling event but he will be playing at centre-half in the game as his young legs will be needed following the 160 miles we would have covered before the game!”

Good luck to you all lads, cycling for a very worthy cause. Lost my dad, a lifelong ITFC supporter, to this b@$tard disease last year.
May the road rise with you, and the wind be on your back.
Super Blues!
