TWTD understands that former loanee Liam Feeney will not now be joining Town on a permanent basis.

The 29-year-old was understood to have agreed terms with the Blues despite interest from Birmingham City and others and was set to sign once his current contract with Bolton Wanderers is up at the end of the month.

However, the winger has subsequently received a more lucrative offer from another club, believed to be Blackburn Rovers, where he was previously on loan in 2014.

Feeney joined Town on loan in March and made seven starts and two sub appearances, scoring once.

Speaking on the final day of the season, manager Mick McCarthy confirmed he was keen to sign the former Millwall man on a permanent basis.

“We’re talking to him and we’re talking to his agent,” he said. “I’d like him to stay and he would like to stay and if we can come to a mutually beneficial deal then that’s what will happen. If we don’t, then we won’t.”

McCarthy said in May that adding wide players to his squad is a priority this summer: “The wide areas are an issue for us. We have lost Tabby [Jay Tabb], Ainsley [Maitland-Niles] has gone back to Arsenal and obviously Ryan [Fraser] is back with Bournemouth so we need to look at that.

“Goals from midfield have been a problem for us over the last two or three years but we looked to have got on top of that with Ryan, who certainly contributed in that area. He was a real loss for us.”

Dissapointed though thought he made a difference to us last season. Dust ourselves down now and work on other targets! Time will tell whether he was worth extra wages being offered

If I was a contractor and after my time was up, another firm offered me more money to go there, I probably would. It's not as if he was the greatest player we had, he had about 2 good games for us when he first joined and gradually faded. I imagine the terms we offered him for for a squad player rather than a starting player which might explain it. We move on.

Mark added 17:41 - Jun 13 Never mind, he wasn't great anyway and after getting a permanent deal and turning 30 perhaps he would have faded out of the first team picture anyway. I hope the club will pay the money for the right young player however. Webster is a start and we need similar signings in midfield.

He was decent and would've been nice on a free, but there are better players out there and if he's chasing a fat contract - which he may be getting at Blackburn - then it's probably more worth our while holding that money back for someone else.

bluefeast added 18:07 - Jun 13 Its not so much missing out on a player that bothers me. Last season we missed out on targets and signed absolute dross , players who are no where near the 1st team. Such as Coke. My worry is that there will be once again no plan B and Mick signs players who do not improve us late on prior to window closing . 2 proper wingers a right back who are out and out first team players is whats needed.

manualthetisfanclub added 18:20 - Jun 13 Not really concerned, typical modern day player, no loyalty to anybody but themselves which cannot blame them as its a short career,good luck to him.The fact he is also nearly 30 suggests he wants one long decent last contract,, for 3/4years as our standard is 2 years normally and less money. thought he would have been a decent addition, he did ok when on loan,but Maybe,as with the Webster deal Evans may start to open the purse strings to sign hungry young exciting players rather than journeyman that he normally signs IMO

jas0999 added 18:44 - Jun 13 We were always going to struggle to match his wage demands particularly if other championship clubs were interested. Personally, although I think he is decent - no more, no less - we shouldn't be paying over the odds. Having said that I was hopeful we were going to be more competitive this pre season after a disappointing one last year. But overall providing we have other targets, including a goal scoring central midfielder, Feeney is no great loss. We must attract similar or better quality as a replacement though.

RAH4 added 19:12 - Jun 13 No great surprise ,if the club is Blackburn. Last club was Bolton so Blackburn convenient from a home standpoint. Likely to have a young family so a relocation not great,particularly if only for 2 years.

Think I'd rather be in our position and have negative supporters reel out tedious stats than be in the shoes of Coventry City, for example, who held your boring acolade before we did.
