Pringle Signs for Preston
Tuesday, 5th Jul 2016 09:54

Preston North End have confirmed the signing of former Blues loanee Ben Pringle from Fulham for an undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Deepdale.

Pringle spent the final three months of last season with Town making nine starts and one sub appearance, scoring two goals.

On the final day of the campaign manager Mick McCarthy said the Blues wouldn't be looking to recruit the midfielder on a permanent basis.

Town tried to sign another of last season’s loan players, Liam Feeney, but the 29-year-old was eventually offered significantly better terms by Blackburn Rovers and moved to Ewood Park following his release by Bolton.

AFC Bournemouth are not expected to loan out Ryan Fraser for another season, while McCarthy said in April that he would be interested in bringing 18-year-old Ainsley Maitland-Niles back on loan from Arsenal if he was available, although was sceptical whether that would be the case.

“Ainsley, I’d have him back in a heartbeat,” he said, but added, “I doubt very much that he will come back, but I would have him, without a doubt. It’s up to him and Arsenal and we’ll see.”

Speaking last week, McCarthy said he was talking to Premier League clubs about taking players on loan but with no signings imminent.

With FIFA having scrapped emergency loans, EFL clubs can now only sign players on a half-season or season-long basis.

Not too sorry but do feel that we need to sign a few players
Am I being pessimistic or is the squad going to be last seasons + patched up Bishop and Mcgoldrick + the lad from Portsmouth + a few risky loans.
Position = 14th

Lets hope we learn from Iceland about Knudsens long throws - yawn

MMM Looking that way but let's cling to the hope that someone decent in midfield might be on the way???

I think Mick expects some of the youngsters to fill in for these players. I didn't see much of the main team last year but I did see the U21 and U18's. Dozzell is obviously ready and Emmanuel and Kenlock look ok but the sorry the rest are not ready. We did have a youngster (Harry Clarke) who could have gone straight into the first team but we sold him to Arsenal. We also lost Sam Ford to West Ham who could have definitely done a job this year. The U21 team lost its way last season and results weren't great.

Agree with all above comments.
I hope Mick is keeping his cards close to his chest as without some experienced attack minded players being added we will do well to finish mid table I fear.
I think we need at least a couple in midfield plus another striker, given that I cannot see Murphy and McGoldrick staying injury free all the time.

I liked Pringle & he certainly added some creativity to our lack-lustre midfield. Although he has a great left foot, he isn't a winger but I hope Mick has options other than Stewart, now that Feeny isn't coming.
I wonder why Mick is so sure that Niles isn't returning, as he won't be breaking through at Arsenal next season. Maybe he had a bit of attitude after playing less in the second half of the season.

We lost Feeney, kicked out Pringle. MM would take Niles back - why? He was worse than both the above. At present we have no one for these positions and MM says no signings other than loans in August. Must be time for the MD to cone up with some more nonsense.

I would imagine the kid requires his mother's approval before embarking on another season in helping out Chambers along the exposed right side of defence.
Rather than being used as an attacking option.

Pringle would be the most typical Mick-signing I could think of, because of his workrate and excellent end-product. Gutted we couldn't sign him.

I liked Pringle. Added some much needed creativity and goals to the side. Don't think he's worth paying a fee for but a good signing for Preston. Good luck to him.

I liked Pringle but a fee and the wage he'd command / we'd pay due to him being on Fulham isn't remotely worth taking a punt on so happy to move on.

Not hugely keen on having Niles back if he has the attitude he had in the second half of the season on the pitch with zero interest in playing for us. IF he bulks up, and is interested like the first half/ has developed then by all means sure.

Must admit squads looking a bit thin but it's still very early doors, I like early signings though as I hate the old excuse of didn't get a good pre season excuse, great signing with a youthful centre back, still would like to see 3 real good quality players for a fee, definitely 2 wingers with some pace and hunger, and probably in all honesty a top striker...

Murphy is getting on a bit, and had one season, mcgoldrick is good quality but injury prone and hit and miss and well I love Sears but clearly McCarthy doesn't see him as a striker, all teams that get promoted have a main man up top... 20 plus goals

I'm sure Mick has players in mind that he wants to bring in so let's just be patient and see what happens.Personally I don't think Pringle was that good so Mick was not going to waste wages on him..Just a bit disappointing that Webster is still injured and might not be fit enough to start the season so we will just have to wait and see.Still five weeks to go so a lot can happen in this time.

So essentially we have a very shaky back 4 (Webster might prove to make us stronger) with a CB at RB and a very average LB. 3 defensive midfielders who are all fairly average, no wingers, Dozzell who we can't pin all our hopes on as he's too inexperienced right now and our 2 most talented players who are mostly always injured (Bish and DM). Up front could be OK if Murphy rediscovers top form and if Sears is played upfront, but only Pitman as back up. We will need to keep everyone fit, hope that the strikers have incredible seasons and that the back 4 rediscover their resilience.... if we are going to get anywhere near the play-offs. Realistically this is going to be a very tough struggle if MM doesn't bring in some quality.
