Reduced Rail Service After Charlton Friendly
Tuesday, 26th Jul 2016 09:19

Fans taking the train to tonight’s pre-season friendly at Charlton Athletic should note that there will be a reduced service from Liverpool Street following the match.

Due to “major project work” one line will be blocked between Marks Tey and Chelmsford from 9.05pm and therefore trains towards Ipswich will run less frequently. More details on Abellio Greater Anglia’s website.

As previously reported, fans face further rail frustration once the season gets under way with disruption for eight weekends between September and November and for 10 days over the Christmas period.

Good to see Greater Anglia and Network Rail doing their pre-season preparations too.

I travelled to Cromer on Sunday with the family as I thought I'd “take the hassle out of days out this summer” like the advert said. The train was late into Norwich, we missed the connection to Cromer and sat for an hour cramped up in the back of a taxi with little air con and feeling increasingly car sick.

On a more football related / Abellio note, we're four season ticket holders from Stowmarket, and the season before last we were told that the Cambridge train that travels back to Stowmarket after the games DID NOT stop at Stowmarket anymore. Stowmarket wasn't mentioned on the platform displays and wasn't announced over the tannoy for the 5.15 service to Cambridge (that stopped at Stow the previous season).

After several weeks waiting and extra half an hour for the Norwich train, we found out it DID stop at Stowmarket after all, but as the “Stowmarket stop was just for connections and not a real stop so we won't announce it”!!!!

Or put it another way, as the Cambridge train was always too full of Stowmarket football fans they thought they'd just not bother mentioning it in the hope fans from Stow would wait for the next one!

Why not put more trains on, or bigger trains, or open up First Class (that no one uses)? The ‘early bird' train deal in my season ticket pack went straight in the bin. We all drive now.

Abellio Greater Anglia is diabolical.

I'm going back to Audley End and it looks OK if a bit slow.

Count aurther I too was told that as I come.from.stowmarket. he didn't like when I told him he was talking rubish . He then said it didn't stop. I then said did he want to bet £100. And I then asked for his name. He still carried on saying it don't stop. So to end this augment I said how on earth are people in Needham market or even stowmarket going to get off at stowmarket or say going from stow to Elmswell going to get there. Yep he went bright red and went away . And yes if it's a footy on that day best put on a extra carriage but they won't do that

We had two guards at Ipswich tell us two different stories too.

I complained to Abellio in writing and got the bullsh*t excuse about the train only “stopping at Stowmarket for passengers to get on the train as it was a connecting stop”.

So a train stops at a station and people can get on but not off!?

It's almost as if they're trying to discourage people from using the trains, by lying to passengers. It's certainly worked in my case.

If a train is too full / too popular on match days, then they need to react to that. Surely they can generate more business by running more trains and a better service than dong their best to p*ss commuters off!?

The days when there was a decent service on our E. Anglian lines is probably even further back in the mists of the past than the last time we had a decent football team!
