Available Pair Start for U23s at QPR
Friday, 26th Aug 2016 13:44

Available-for-transfer pair Cameron Stewart and Piotr Malarczyk both start for the U23s in this afternoon’s game against QPR at Loftus Road (KO 2pm).

Speaking yesterday, manager Mick McCarthy said that so far there had been no interest in the pair or midfielder Giles Coke, who is also available but is currently recovering from the knee surgery he underwent at the end of last season.

There are other no senior players involved, while on-trial striker Leon Best remained in Suffolk where he was due to train with the first-team squad this morning.

Also among starting this afternoon are James Blanchfield, Adam McDonnell, Monty Patterson and Ben Morris.

The game is being shown live on QPR Player HD, to which subscribers to Ipswich Player HD have access.

U23s: Crowe, Fowler, Webber, Blanchfield, C Smith, Malarczyk (c), Stewart, McDonnell, Morris, Benyu, Patterson. Subs: Salaudeen, Wright, McKendry, Nydam, Downes.

Sounds very like Leon Best is going to get signed up, have a feeling he'll be holding a shirt before the days done and go straight into the 18 tomorrow.

For all those pre season saying " play Stewart " - seriously, if he was half as good as people pretended a club in our league would have bid / signed him for now. No one has and apparently no interest. Says it all.

How near to the 18 are McDonnell / Morris and Blanchfield / how have they been playing?

I think MM was talking Stewart up to try and drum up a bit of interest, but unless he puts the application himself, I don't think it's going to happen. Shame, as he's clearly got talent...

Once McCarthy has his knife into a player all he's likely to do is give it a twist every now and again. The very idea that he the great McCarthy could be mistaken never crosses his mind.

Agree Bluetone, but even Mick said he had reported back fit,but only used him sparingly in mid season, and not even in the League Cup.

This is one of McCarthy's bad traits I feel, after all he goes and signs these players, then doesn't seem to give them a chance;must have been half a dozen who have been treated like this.

On the other hand there are players who he plays regardless, and this is how he is deemed to have favorites. In over 50 years of following Town, cant recall this happening before.
