Former Skipper De Vos Named Canada's Director of Development

Former Town skipper Jason de Vos has been appointed Canada Soccer’s director of development.

Canada Soccer say the newly-created role will see him take charge of the “overall management, direction and development of coaching and grassroots development programmes across Canada”.

Victor Montagliani, Canada Soccer’s president, said: “The director of development is an important role for Canada Soccer as part of our 2014-18 Strategic Plan — Leading a Soccer Nation — pillar to Invest in Technical Leadership.

“Jason was the ideal candidate with his extensive experience in and knowledge of soccer development in the formative years leading into the 11-a-side game.

"We could not have chosen a more passionate soccer advocate to lead Canadian soccer’s change management.”

Former Canadian international De Vos, 42, said: “I am honoured to be joining Canada Soccer as the director of development and excited to carry on the great work that has been done across the country to grow and develop the game of soccer.

“I look forward to developing a strong working relationship with our provincial and territorial association member associations as we evolve and enhance both our player and coach development systems in Canada.”

De Vos, who was previously involved in grassroots development at Canada’s largest club, Oakville Soccer, has been working as an analyst with Canadian TV channel The Sports Network.

Nice one. Good to see him doing well, and putting something back into the game in his home country. Much underrated for his time here, but a top bloke and deserves to do well.

Great man and fantastic player.

He still always listens out for the Ipswich scores and considers Town 'his' team.

Well done Jason!

I often watch and listen to Jason on TSN . He really knows his stuff. Interestingly Craig Forrest is also in Toronto on Sportsnet...and he also knows his stuff.

The last time I watched Jason play was v Rotherham April 2005 when we won 4-3. It was a good game and my Canadian son making his first visit to PR was also with me. He enjoyed it and it made quite an impression.

Congratulations Jason and best wishes in your new role. Hopefully we'll now get to see Canada in the world cup again!

Can we tap him up for some players. They surly have some hidden gems that side of the pond. Thought Craig Forrest was a real top quality keeper.
