Berra and Patterson Could Win Caps
Saturday, 8th Oct 2016 10:26

Christophe Berra and Monty Patterson could win international caps with Scotland and New Zealand later today.

Berra’s Scotland face Lithuania in a World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park this evening (KO 7.45pm, Sky Sports Two from 7pm) having beaten Malta 5-1 in their opening game.

The 31-year-old, who was an unused sub in that match, will be looking to add to his 33 full caps and three international goals.

Scotland are also in action on Tuesday when they face Slovakia in Trnava.

Patterson’s All Whites are taking on Mexico in a friendly in Nashville in the opening match of their two-game USA tour.

MIdfielder or frontman Patterson has previously won five full caps and was part of the squad which won the OFC Nations Cup in the summer.

The 19-year-old is yet to make his senior debut for the Blues but is a regular in the U23s.

Manager Mick McCarthy says he’s pleased with Patterson’s progress but that he’s not yet in his thoughts for the senior side.

“He’s doing all right at U23s level, he’s doing fine, but he’s not pushing to get a position in front of the other lads at the moment,” he said.

The All Whites take on the USA in another friendly in Washington DC on Tuesday. Former Town loan strikers Rory Fallon and Chris Wood are also in the squad.

Not surprised Mick isn't giving Monty a chance;after all he is up against the irreplaceable sideways Skues and dodgy Douglas,in midfield;and the goals are just flowing lol!!!.

After all,in four years, he hasn't put one player from within the club into the first team on a regular basis;so why should he start now?
