No Senior Players in U23s Facing Hull
Monday, 10th Oct 2016 11:28

Town have confirmed that no senior players will be involved in this afternoon’s U23s game against Hull City at Playford Road (KO 1pm), although Adam McDonnell will make his return from injury.

Striker Ben Morris, Kundai Benyu, James Blanchfield, Shane McLoughlin and skipper Chris Smith will also line-up for Gerard Nash’s side, who will be looking for their third win of the season.

The decision not to include senior players means Jonny Williams won't get any further match action under his belt prior to Saturday's game at Blackburn.

The Wales international, who celebrated his 23rd birthday yesterday, rejoined the Blues on loan for the season in August having suffered an ankle injury during pre-season with parent club Crystal Palace.

Williams played 45 minutes of the 3-0 Premier League Cup defeat to Liverpool a week ago yesterday, then 70 minutes of last Wednesday’s 4-1 behind-closed-doors friendly victory over Southend.

Speaking prior to the Huddersfield game, manager Mick McCarthy said that Williams should be ready for the Blackburn squad if he came through those matches without a problem.

Is McDonnell anywhere near pushing on, or realistically is he getting to the point of it not going to happen here, perhaps needs to drop down the leagues?

Great shame that the ideal time during the international break to remove McCarthy is passing.
We will have to endure - but it can only be a matter of time.

One day we will return to being a decent football club

To be fair the younger players seem to do better when there aren't any senior players to get in the way.
