Hyam Undergoes Surgery
Monday, 10th Oct 2016 15:49

Town midfielder Luke Hyam has undergone surgery having suffered a reaction to his knee injury as he stepped up his recovery during the international break. The 24-year-old, who has been out of action since suffering the knock in the pre-season friendly at Cambridge, is expected to be sidelined for another two months.

The Blues had hoped that Hyam would avoid requiring an operation and until his recent setback had been making good progress.

“Luke took a blow to the outside of his knee at Cambridge and there was damage to a nerve,” Town physio Matt Byard told the club site.

“There was a loss of sensation and muscle control. We hoped it would settle down but just as we started to discuss surgery, Luke improved greatly and we were told he wouldn’t need an operation.

“Unfortunately the symptoms returned again and having seen a specialist, surgery was recommended this time. Luke’s had the operation and we hope that will sort the problem.

“It’s going to be another eight weeks or so before we would expect to see him close to being back on the training field.”

Better news is that David McGoldrick, who has been out of action since August with ruptured ankle ligaments, returned to full training today.

Adam Webster, who has been out with a hamstring problem, also trained this morning and is expected to be available for this Saturday’s game at Blackburn, as is Jonny Williams, who is over the ankle injury he suffered in pre-season with Crystal Palace.

The Welshman was still in his training kit as he watched today's 3-1 U23s victory over Hull City having played in two matches for Gerard Nash's side last week.

Before we start slating the lad on how poor he is anyway - let's not forget how frustrating it must be for him and that he does give 100% for the blue shirt

There's something rotten in the state of Ipswich Physio Team

Can't help but feel Hyams days are numbered. He's been out for so long now and never seems to have got over that foul by Lansbury (away at Forest 2 or 3 seasons ago now)?

Good for him giving 100% for the shirt, that's the minimum we expect from a professional footy player surely!? be happy when he's back fit anyway. Adds bite.

On a different topic I know but :
York City Football Club are inviting applications for the position of First Team Manager.

Mick... a great opportunity for you -19th in the 5th tier of English football, no money, fighting relegation, great place to live and near Barnsley - What more could you want.

He seems to have become as bad as McGoldrick and Williams now for picking up injuries and not recovering....

I think Hyam is missed more than we might think. Wishing him a speedy and long lasting recovery.

Good to see the others coming back and I'm looking forward to seeing more flair and attack at Blackburn if not in the first 11 or in the first 70 minutes then Good to see the others coming back and I'm looking forward to seeing more flair and attack coming off the bench at Blackburn. I can't see MM changing anything in the first 70 minutes. It's a six pointer at this stage of the season, and I don't want to see the gap at the bottom closing.

Indeed, StuartBrett... We're getting really good value out of him for how many times we'll have had him as a virtual new signing. Who says ME limits our signings?

Luke Hyam is a professional hospital patient whose career has been blighted by appearances for Ipswich

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Luke.

Good to hear that McGoldrick and Williams are close to a return. Hopefully they can provide us with the creativity we've been missing.

Sincere wishes for a solid recovery now - but it's time to go because in reality, Luke just isn't good enough at this level. Sorry but it@s true.

Hyam should be played defensive midfield, 100% over Douglas and Skuse. When Keane played him there, I can't be the only one who thought he was very solid! Plays for the shirt and not afrias to get stuck in.

Get well soon Lukey!

Another fragile little flower, like Bishop. Waste of time and space. Get rid.

Poor lad.

Regardless of his ability, nobody can ignore his determination and drive.

Chin up lad.

If Hyam could only be fit! Happily take him and Bish at centre mid if and when both are fit.

Fully agree Ferguson but would like to add to your comment about "looking forward to seeing more flair"........we would have to go some to see less flair than what we had against Huddersfield! Against The Terriers I have seen more life in a bottle of still orange.
