No Cresswell Cap Cash
Tuesday, 8th Nov 2016 11:12

Former Blue Aaron Cresswell’s possible England debut won’t lead to a windfall for Town, TWTD understands. The West Ham left-back was a late call into Gareth Southgate's squad last night.

It had been understood that the deal which took the left-back to the Hammers in the summer of 2014 had included a clause which would see the Blues receive a top-up if the former Tranmere man were to make an international appearance, however that is not the case.

West Ham paid the Blues an initial £3.75 million with the fee potentially rising to £7 million, but with all the top-up clauses relating to appearances for the Hammers. Town have already received a substantial further sum with several of those appearance milestones having been passed.

Cresswell, 26, has made 93 starts for the Hammers, 78 in the Premier League, and has scored four goals.

Clauses relating to international appearances usually relate to competitive games in any case and Cresswell seems unlikely to face Scotland in Friday’s World Cup qualifier with his debut more likely to come in next Tuesday’s friendly against Spain.

Meanwhile, another ex-Town full-back, David Wright, has joined Norwich City's staff as their U18s coach having previously been in the same role at Colchester United.

How about a sell on clause Phil, do we know if there is one and what percentage ?

Still good to see him in the squad, fee or no fee.

Wickets

Not certain but Town usually try to include one in their deals.

It's a real shame to read that in the footnote there. I always quite liked David Wright, and it's sad to see how things have turned so bad for him to find himself in that situation. Let's hope things get better so that he can climb out of the pit he's got himself into sooner rather than later. I suppose the signs had been there for a while, with having been at Colchester United - why didn't family and friends give him the help then before it came to this?

Wouldn't be surprised at all to soon see a bigger team than West Ham come in for him. Liverpool could do with a left back and he is a scouser so he might go there. Hopefully for a hefty fee and maybe we will get a chunk of that! Especially as clubs need a certain amount of homegrown players in their squads. Means clubs demand higher fees for English players.

Oh so we have already received the extra money for cressy, that came in under the radar then! I'm sure we've all been looking at money for Murphy as this years only funding source plus mings money. I wonder where that went then?

It states that Cresswell has made 93 appearances for Weet Ham so one would assume one of the clauses would have been for 100 appearances?

If so, that should come in by January. With that, and the Murphy fee, we HAVE to invest in January!! Especially so if we're within 9 or 10 points of the Play Offs!

No excuses now Mr McCarthy and Mr Milne!!

As my dear old Dutch Grandmother used to say
"It turns and it turns, but it always turns to sh*t"

Just because we receive income into the club (via Cresswell top ups)
1) The owners do not have to tell us
2) The owners might not choose to spend it on players in the transfer window
They run the club/business - not us
We might not always like it - but that's the way it is

When he makes 1000 appearances we get another £2.75!

Defo info.

So £7M for Cresswell, £8.25M for Mings and £3M for Murphy. Has that really been reinvested in the playing squad? Don't forget the savings on their wages and others who have left the club.

Jas we lose around £8 mill a year, it's gone into keeping us afloat! Our wage bill isn't peanuts we pay decent weekly ££££ to many players.

Poor David Wright. I had no idea things had gotten so bad for him. He's one step below selling crack. I hope things turn around for him. Maybe an intervention is coming?

We do actually get some money from the gate (although not too much at the moment) plus sponsorship etc so selling our players isn't our only income. I'd love to know the breakdown of the supposed 8 mil a year we loose!

When we had Keane it seemed he used to spend 8 million a season at his old club Sunderland, or at least he tried to! Under Keane it sometimes felt like watching Sunderland reserves!

jas0999 - you really don't understand this do you? No matter how many times you are told that ME has to contribute £8 m a year just to keep the club afloat you refuse to accept it. The money has to come from somewhere, are you willing to cough up?

If we are supposedly getting an £8m " £8 m a year just to keep the club afloat" how come MM and many on here are always griping about how little his budget is ?

How come this £8m never seems to show up in the annual accounts ? In fact for the last accounts, ending June 2015, we made a profit of £5.3m - albeit through player sales, so ME could be hardly contributing £8m then, could he ?
