Red Card to Racism
Red Card to Racism
Wednesday, 17th Apr 2002 09:35

Jermaine Wright, Martijn Reuser and Marcus Stewart were the Town players at the Show Racism the Red Card presentation yesterday. The presentation was part of a Europe-wide initiative entitled Football Against Racism in Football (FARE).

The presentation was held at the Sir Alf Ramsey Suite at Portman Road with around 100 students from local schools in attendance. They saw a video featuring top players including Kieron Dyer and heard a monologue relating to racism in the community.

The players judged anti-racist posters designed by the children and Wright revealed that he had been subjected to racism as a child in London: "I was too scred to tell anyone for quite a while."

The advice given to fans witnessing racist abuse at a game was expressed by Marcus Stewart: "If anyone sees or hears any sort of racist abuse or chants they should inform a steward. The people responsible should be thrown out."
