McCarthy: I'd Sign Tom Tomorrow If I Could
Friday, 18th Nov 2016 06:00

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he’d sign loanee Tom Lawrence on a permanent basis tomorrow if he could, but says no potential deal is currently in place with the 22-year-old’s parent club Leicester and that there would be a lot of hurdles before anything might be tied up.

“There’s nothing in place,” McCarthy said when quizzed on the Wales international, whose contract with the Premier League champions runs until the summer of 2018, perhaps joining the Blues at the end of his season-long loan.

“I really like Tom and if I could sign him I’d do that tomorrow, but that’s way, way out of my hands because first and foremost it’s what Leicester think because he’s under contract with them, then it’s what Tom thinks, whether he’d like to come.

“I know his agent and he’s good guy, to be fair, but there’s lots of [questions], can we afford him? There’s all of those things that go on.

“But my sentiment is that I think he’s been great, I’ve picked him every week, he was really outstanding a fortnight ago and the goal he got was fabulous.”

These are the kind of players we need to sign if we are truly ambitious of gaining promotion! No good having someone on loan for 6-12 months seeing them play well and at thee end of it watch him go back to his parent club have no future and signs for a rival in the championship! Lawrence is a very capable player at this level and someone we should make priority to sign! Refreshing to actually see a player run with the ball and take on players! Pull your finger out Evans and make a deal happen!

Agree. We need this type of player if we want to have any chance of promotion.

With Lawrence, Didzy and Sears playing together we have the chance to score goals, something that has been lacking this season. Williams is also another one we should be looking to sign permanently. When he came on in the Sheffield Wednesday game, he was on fire.

I am quite excited about tomorrow. If we can get a few wins together, we could be back in the top 6 by Christmas. We have 5 home games in the next 8 games so it is the time to push forward. Just hope there are no more injuries.

...of course 'There's nothing in place'. That's no surprise.

BUT, he is the style of player we need.

That's what happens if you get loan players with 'potential' from Premiership clubs...it wets your appetite that you want to sign them unfortunately the state we're in we have to look at Poundland players from lower leagues (some who have been good signings i.e. Sears and hopefully Webster) but there have been a few who have turned out at being worth a few pence.

Wickham, Cresswell, Mings and Murphy sold for millions. The club keep quiet about the add on fees for Cresswell appearances. The club sell tickets at premium prices, now the owner needs to reflect that with some serious investment in the playing squad.
