U18s Defeat Bristol City
Saturday, 19th Nov 2016 17:14 by James Ager

Town's U18s returned to league action with a 3-1 victory against Bristol City at Playford Road on Saturday morning with Ross Meldrum, Declan Daniels and Conor McKendry (pictured) netting the goals in the first half, while Owen Barry pulled one back for the visitors via a penalty late on.

The young Blues made the perfect start as they took the lead after just three minutes. A fine through ball from McKendry was clinically tucked away by skipper Meldrum.

City keeper Lochlan Robertson did well to beat away a fierce McKendry effort on 26 but he could do nothing to prevent Town extending their lead a minute later. Daniels latched onto Kieron Cathline's long ball and cut in from the byline before firing a right-foot shot into the net.

Within five minutes McKendry had deservedly added his name to the scoresheet with a low freekick that found its way into the net via a post.

Midway through the second half Albert Wilton's low cross from the right teed up Ben Folami but his effort rebounded off the foot of a post, shortly before Robertson did well to claw Brett McGavin's freekick away from the top corner.

With nine minutes remaining the visitors reduced the arrears when Harrison Reeves was bundled over in the box by Ross Marshall. Barry stepped up and sent Town keeper Nick Hayes the wrong way from the spot.

Town's impressive first-half display won them the game, and there were a number of good performances all over the pitch.

Corrie Ndaba looked comfortable in an unfamiliar centre-back role while Daniels and Folami kept the visitors' defence on their toes throughout.

U18s: Hayes, Cahill (Lankester 46), Clements, McGavin, Cathline, Ndaba, McKendry (Wilton 53), Downes (Marshall 74), Daniels, Folami, Meldrum. Unused: Wright, Murrell.
