Strong U23s Side Facing Huddersfield in Premier League Cup
Monday, 5th Dec 2016 13:14

Brett Pitman, Kevin Bru, Leon Best, Jonny Williams, Dean Gerken and Josh Emmanuel are all set to feature for a strong U23s side taking on Huddersfield in the Premier League Cup at Portman Road this evening (KO 7pm).

Pitman will be playing his first game since suffering an ankle injury at Leeds at the end of September.

The Premier League Cup, which was introduced at the start of the season, emulates the format of the Champions League with 32 teams involved in the group stage and the top two in each going through to the last 16. From there the ties will be one-off, knockout games with extra-time and penalties if required.

Town lost 3-0 at home to Liverpool in their opening group game before defeating West Brom 2-1, also at Portman Road.

Huddersfield have lost both their matches and are bottom of the group with the Blues second behind the Baggies on goal difference and Liverpool top on six points.

Entry is free to season ticket holders and those aged under-16, while admission costs £3 for adults and £1 for the over-60s, students and under-20s.

U23s: Gerken, Emmanuel, Kenlock, C Smith, Fowler, Bru, McDonnell, Williams, Benyu, Best, Pitman. Subs: Hayes, Marshall, Wilton, Blanchfield, McLoughlin.

Meaning we're second from bottom (3rd) and behind West Brom (2nd) by goal difference...

ipswich1992 - if I'm guessing by your birth year you were born in '92, it's laughable that you want mick out.

Enjoyed the burley, royle and even Magilton days. Playing attractive football am I not allowed to demand better entertainment.
I want to go to Portman road again but it's too boring it feels like a punishment. When I was born has nothing to do with it if McCarthy stays we will lose a total generation of fans because it is crap!!
So all in all Chrisswailes Dino out the sooner the better! Not long now he can't have many supporters left surely?

All this sarcastic, negative and boring comments re MM and ME - be careful what you wish for! I have been a supporter for over 40 years and cannot attend any matches so I rely on the internet. Some reality checks must be in order - NONE of this team/staff will be of high enough standard to survive in the premiership so if promotion is gained then many many changes will take place not least the culture of the club! You may hark back to the "good old days" but it is never going to happen

Jonny Williams must be wondering what he is doing here given he himself thought himself ready to start for the first team a few weeks ago!

Spottheball - it's not that people think we have a divine right to be in Premier League, we just want ITFC play attacking football, trying to win matches instead of trying not to lose them. Be careful what we wish for? I wish to see ITFC play attacking football with pace, youth & excitement. Teams with less at their disposal than us manage it!
Fed up with our team stifling the life out of football in games that have "very little in them" being so scared of losing that they end up losing anyway because they haven't tried to win

I am still backing Mick, careful what you wish for Paula Jewell and Roy Keane? I simply dont except its Mick;s fault...go back in time to Bobby Ferguson, John Lyall and Magic Jim Magilton...all gave it their all(as is MM) but we did not record much success, we simply cannot compete with other cubs who have DOLLAR.
You want MM out, well those of you that do will get a new manager in , but will face the same restraints and the same moans will resurface and MM will be saying "unlucky son, they did this to me". It is important that everybody can express their opinions and indeed frustrations but his has little impact - i will be giving Mick my full support. We are dedicated fans bcos we live thru the tuff times and ump for joy and spill (to much) beer thru the good. Ipswich till i die.

It's a cup, we don't do them. The club think they are a waste of time and a distraction.
