Morris and Dozzell on Target But U18s Exit Youth Cup at Forest
Tuesday, 6th Dec 2016 21:44

Ben Morris and Andre Dozzell were on target but Town’s U18s were defeated 4-2 by Nottingham Forest after extra time at the City Ground to exit the FA Youth Cup at the third round stage.

Toby Edser put the home side in front with a freekick in the 27th minute but striker Morris hit back for the young Blues eight minutes after the break.

Virgil Gomis restored Forest’s lead on 84 but three minutes Dozzell's freekick levelled the scores once again to take the game into extra-time.

However, Ben Brereton made it 3-2 in the 97th minute and then 4-2 three minutes later to see the East Midlanders through to round four and Town out of the competition, which they won in 1973, 1975 and 2005, at the first hurdle.

U18s: Wright, Woolfenden, Ndaba, Downes, Cathline (Cahill 89), Webber, McKendry, Dozzell, Morris (Daniels 87), Folami, Meldrum (McGavin 60). Unused: Clements, Hayes.

This was my first view of the U18s and the way they play compared to the first team may as well be a different sport. We dominated the game until Forest scored and were never out of it until the late double strike. Lots of passing, movement and wonder of wonders, midfielders who wanted the ball! Well done lads, it could have gone either way.

Agreed, was a good performance and only injuries and tired legs denied us the win. Was great to see us playing the way we did.

It's not the end of the world. The important game is against Cardiff.

You must mean "Diseases"
Although
Losing matches seems quite contagious, of which McCarthy doesn't appear to have a serum which can defeat it.
But ITFC staff have been visiting Hospitals this week, and McCarthy may have been given some Aspirin for his long term headache.

A week after week the reserves disappoint it is a question whether you like it's down to coaching and giving them confidence which must be at a very low ebb The town set up coaching need to change

Surley success for the youth set up should be measured by how many make it to the first team and not winning cups
