Benyu Joining Aldershot on Loan
Wednesday, 7th Dec 2016 11:20

Midfielder Kundai Benyu is joining Vanarama National League Aldershot Town on a month’s youth loan.

Benyu, who turns 19 on Monday, has been on the fringes of the first team in recent weeks but so far without making it onto the bench, having apologised to manager Mick McCarthy at the start of pre-season for having an “attitude problem” last term.

Prior to that the Camden-born youngster, whose contract is currently due to end in June, was a sub for the senior side on four occasions, twice in the Championship in the 2014/15 campaign, including the Norwich derby at Carrow Road, and twice in the League Cup last season, but so far but without making his first-team debut.

Shots manager Gary Waddock is pleased to have added Benyu to his midfield options.

“Kundai is another exciting young player who will add extra depth and quality to the squad," he told his club's official website.

“He is very good technically and bolsters an area where we are currently short on numbers.

“Both [assistant manager] James [Rowe] and myself have seen him develop in the Ipswich Town academy and we look forward to working with him on this next stage in his development.”

Benyu, whose spell at Aldershot is due to end on January 7th, could make his debut when the Shots take on East Thurrock United away in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

With the emergency loan provision no longer available to EFL clubs, the Vanarama National League is currently the top division where Town can send young players out for spells to gain experience.

Striker or midfielder Monty Patterson is with Braintree until the end of the year, while defender Joe Robinson is with Boston, who play in the Vanarama National North, also until the end of 2016.

Young Blues keeper Jacob Marsden is currently with Ryman League Premier Division Leiston, who he saw to a 5-3 penalty shoot-out victory at Eastbourne Borough in an FA Trophy replay last night following a 2-2 draw.

Academy defender Kolade Salaudeen is on loan with Grays Athletic, who also play in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Get him a bit of competitive game time so he can come back in January and be ready for a big play offs push towards the end of the season. Good luck lad!

Blimey. 2 comments, both positive, with one even somewhat optimistic (although I guess that might've been slightly tongue in cheek).
Anyway, yes, hope it works out well for all parties. Can't be any harm in it.

How come none of our younger players are able to get loans to league clubs? Our track record with non-league deals is not exactly great...

Watched him Monday night and looks comfortable with the ball at his feet but not able to influence the game enough as was a bit lazy. Not the only one that night but I can see that his attitude needs to change. At his age he should be hungry to press on and make a career for him self. Here's hoping that Gary Waddock and James Rowe at Aldershot can turn this talented boy around and give him some good habits which will benefit them and us in the long run. I've watched this Vanarama league and it's going to be very tough for him playing the way he is at the moment but I wish him all the best. Competitive football can only be a good experience for these youngsters as the need to be tested and improved.

Marriott was loaned out to the conference, returned and promptly shown the door by our great leader, I note he scores quite often for Luton

Ok he'll hopefully get games but a little worried it's at a pretty low level, fitness levels are worlds apart.................but he should get toughened up I suppose.

I will be very surprised if he will ever make it with us. Our track record for lower league loan outs is quite depressing.

While I think it is prob a good thing for him to have a loan out for a month or So, it's just another example of McCarthys contempt for the fans. Just a couple of weeks ago he's telling us that Benyus attitude has changed and he's very close to being in the 1st team squad. Now, he's out on loan to a vanarama lge club?
