Saturday's results could hardly have been worse for Town with both Fulham and Blackburn gaining valuable three point hauls and Bolton drawing. The only good news for George Burley was another defeat for Sunderland at West Ham. Elsewhere Derby's relegation was confirmed with a defeat at Liverpool.

Fulham gained a shock 1-0 win at Leeds and Blackburn beat Middlesbrough 3-1 at the Riverside to put Town in deeper trouble. Bolton Wanderers drew 1-1 with Spurs while Sunderland lost 3-0 at West Ham and Liverpool sent Derby down with a 2-0 win at Anfield.

Sunderland are now the team above Town, but are five points ahead of the Blues, although Town's goal difference (-16) is better than Sunderland's (-22) and the Blues have two more games to play.
