Knudsen a Doubt for Bristol City Clash
Thursday, 29th Dec 2016 14:14

Left-back Jonas Knudsen is a doubt ahead of Friday night’s game against Bristol City at Portman Road having suffered a cut to his foot. Myles Kenlock will replace the Danish international if he misses out, although manager Mick McCarthy has hinted that the 20-year-old might start in any case.

“Jonas has got a cut on his instep, so we’ll see how he is,” McCarthy said. “Bearing in mind it’s right on his instep where you kick the ball, it does pose a bit of a problem. If he’s not fit Myles will play. He might play anyway yet.”

The Town boss was giving no further hints on what changes he might be considering for the game against the Robins: “I will pick the team accordingly.”

Luke Varney was left out of the 18 which lost 2-0 at home to Fulham on Boxing Day but McCarthy says the striker is OK: “Varns is fine, he’s trained really well in the last couple of days. He’s in good shape.”

Tommy Smith (back), Jonny Williams (shoulder) and Luke Hyam and Giles Coke (both knee) are still recovering after surgery, while Paul Digby (also knee) and Teddy Bishop (ankle) are also sidelined at present.

Good. Didn't deserve his place straight back in the starting line up anyway.

Not good enough I'm afraid.

Agreed with above, now we just need some sort of plague to hit different class douglas and proper bloke chambo! Maybe then we can play a capable right back (Emmanuel) and a more attacking midfield!

Mick, give Kenlock a proper run in the team, not just put him in every time Knudsen is injured and sweeten it by saying how well Myles is doing... Keep Kenlock in and watch him improve. Same should be for Emmanuel! We have two promosing, young, attacking full backs but we aren't using them... WHY?!

What...Myles may have played anyway...I think not.
You have had many chances to play the talented youngster, but pressure is now starting to build.
In the last 18 months, you have only ever played Emmanuel and Kenlock if there are injuries, and then dropped them as soon as possible to bring in under-performing senior players. We are on the slippery slide and now Knudesn is injured you turn to Kenlock and try to suggest that he may have played anyway...Really ???.
If Knudsen is fit Kenlock would not get a look in..as proven time and again

This makes us stronger!!! But still will be straight back in as soon as he is fit, no matter how good or bad Kenlock plays.

I am not going to be as negative as some on here but can't see this as anything but good news. Kenlock deserves a run in the team as can't do any worse than Knudsen ( and I would bet that he will do so much better !)

Shame. Probably been our best player this season. Outstanding.

NOT

Truely an awful player. 2nd worst full back in the club.

muccletonjoe - I agree except for skuse. I don't think he deserves all the criticism, he isn't half bad and saves our skins on occasions. playing next to douglas is a waste of his ability

Cut on the instep - sounds like it might be career threatening......what a wuss

That said, it's no real loss as he's been appalling all season.

Good, get Kenlock in!

Good, Knudsen is hoof ball and long throw ins and they all go straight to the opposition. short passes and short throw ins to a blue shirt is what is required. Sorry mick but this is the way to play for starters.

Go get 'em Kenlock. A proper little left back who is light years ahead of Knudsen I'm afraid. Make the position your own son.

As I've said before, at the end of last season, I thought Knudsen was our most improved player. However he has not pushed on and if anything has gone backwards. Kenlock is better.

ipswichdave: Your scouted line-up, with the exception of the much-debated right-back position, is probably not far from the best option we have and what most of us would be fairly happy with as a starting eleven. What worries me more and more, however, is the question whether even this "best" eleven is good enough to get us out of the mire.

I agree that Kenlock should play - he has earned the chance and Knudsen has not played well over a large period of time.

I dont agree that it is good he is injured - disrespectful & harsh to a player trying his best. I didn't agree with similar comments when Hyam picked up his injury.

Finally fully agree with tempzzz - Skuse is a decent defensive midfield player and rarely lets us down. MM should be able to realise he needs creativity next to him not Douglas who is as useful as playing me - I am 51 by the way & not quite at my previous fighting weight!

Not going tomorrow but off to QPR with the blue army!

Much as I want MM out I still feel the need to support the boys. COYB!!
