Emmanuel Replaces Ward at QPR
Monday, 2nd Jan 2017 14:11

Josh Emmanuel replaces Grant Ward in an otherwise unchanged Town XI at QPR, which looks set to line-up in a 3-5-2 formation.

Emmanuel comes in at right wing-back with Myles Kenlock keeping his place and starting in the left wing-back role with skipper Luke Chambers, Adam Webster and Christophe Berra the three centre-halves.

Cole Skuse, Kevin Bru and Tom Lawrence will be in central midfield with Brett Pitman again partnering David McGoldrick up front.

QPR make two changes with Jordan Cousins and Ariel Borysiuk taking over from Sandro and Yeni Ngbakoto in midfield. Irish youngster Ryan Manning, who trained with the Town academy as a schoolboy, makes his senior home debut.

Meanwhile, Town target Danny Ward is in the Rotherham starting line-up at Leeds this afternoon. Fulham's Cauley Woodrow is again left out of their 18, despite wantaway loan striker Chris Martin not being involved.

QPR: Smithies, Bidwell, Hall, Lynch, Borysiuk, Cousins, Mackie, Wszolek, Perch, Sylla, Manning. Subs: Ingram, Onuoha, Washington, El Khayati, Ngbakoto, Shodipo, Sandro.

Town: Bialkowski, Emmanuel, Kenlock, Chambers (c), Webster, Berra, Skuse, Bru, Lawrence, Pitman, McGoldrick. Subs: Gerken, Knudsen, Douglas, Dozzell, Ward, Sears, Varney. Referee: Tony Harrington (Cleveland).

Was fearing the return of Skuglas so glad to see that hasn't happened.

I'm guessing it'll end up being more of a 5-3-2 with our Manager and us being away?

Always seemed a good idea with 3 centre backs, will either be amazing or terrible, depends on how well drilled they are because if they aren't, we will loose... badly

Douglas gets back on the bench but not in the starting line up which is good. Interesting line up.

Absolutely brilliant, I'll go along with that. Hopefully a positive result will be achieved and this formation stuck with, 3 at the back and 2 fullbacks full of energy and skill bombing on. COYB's.

Whatever next, firstly Knudsen and Douglas dropped, now Emmanuel gets a start. Is mick actually listening or is he getting desperate ???
Yes I think as previously mentioned it will be 5-3-2 (5-1-2-1-1 actually).
Glad to see Kenlock and Bru retained, and long may this continue.
Would have kept Best on the bench as an striking option rather than Douglas, as I am sure Douglas will make an appearance today.

Douglas will come on when we are winning 2 - 1 just to give QPR a chance to draw.

I have been hoping for this all season so I hope it works. Even if it doesn't I would like McCarthy to perceiver with it because with 3 decent centre backs in the squad it's definitely the way forward and it hasn't done Chelsea any harm.

I concur, 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 is the formation I would prefer in terms of playing Mick's way, would have preferred to see Sears up top instead of Pitman but he is probably lacking form and confidence to be playing there.

Up to the players now to put in a decent performance.

Well I am well chuffed with this as have been asking for three centre backs for over two years , really hope we stick with this and the young full backs whatever the result . Will give MM more time if he is less stubborn than the past with his selections and style . COYB

About time this squad has been crying out for 3 centre backs. I don't know who got McCarthy to listen but I'm glad they did. Should be easy win today!! COYB

Bloomin' heck...Mick is trying something different and dare I say it, adventurous? The formation makes sense as we have the personnel for it - three half decent centre backs and two young, attacking full backs.

This formation requires energy and high pressing when the opposition have the ball. Just hope it doesn't end up being a 5-3-2. Credit to Mick for trying something different, though. Looks as if Evans has put a rocket up his backside and possibly given him an ultimatum.

I like the team, but we did play three at the back against Fulham second half. We were very open and did not look as though the players understood how to play it. I hope they have been practicing it in training as would like to see it work.

MM has picked a side that most would approve so give him the benefit if the doubt instead of still keeping on taking the p..s

Has Mick made a new year resolution,as I like this line up.

Both Carsey and I hoped that at some time he would play 3 at the back when Chambers move to Wolves was mooted;but I didn't really expect it.This means that not only are Kenlock and Bru retained;but Emmanuel is also included, with Chambers playing in his favourite position.

Also for once Mick is not trying to match up the opposition.

After 25 mins it seems to be working ok;so fingers crossed for a Town win.

All very well but Emmanuel isn't carrying much threat going forward. Sears needed, 0-1 down now.
