Town Linked With Grigg Bid and Aberdeen Defender
Sunday, 8th Jan 2017 12:17

Town are reported to be ready to make a move for Wigan’s Northern Irish international striker Will Grigg and are also said to be keen on Aberdeen right-back Shay Logan.

According to The Sun on Sunday the Blues are keen on Grigg and are set to make an offer for the 25-year-old, who is contracted to the Latics until the summer of 2018.

Solihull-born Grigg was with the youth set-ups at Birmingham City and Solihull Moors before playing non-league senior football for Stratford Town.

The 5ft 11in tall striker broke into the Football League when Walsall signed him in 2008, before moving on to Brentford in 2013 and then, after a loan spell with the MK Dons in the 2014/15 season, Wigan in the summer of 2015 for fee reported to be £900,000.

The eight-times-capped Northern Ireland international scored 28 times for the Latics last season - 25 in the league - in 38 starts and five sub appearances in all competitions as they won the League One title and he won the third tier’s Golden Boot. This season he has scored seven goals in 20 starts and five sub appearances.

Grigg, whose song at Wigan went viral towards the end of last season, was a member of the Northern Ireland squad at the European Championships last summer but without making it on to the field.

Manchester-born Logan, 28, is a graduate of the Manchester City academy and had spells on loan with Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Stockport and Tranmere while with his hometown club.

The 5ft 8in tall right-back joined Brentford on a permanent basis in the summer of 2011, then moved on to Aberdeen initially on loan in 2014. Logan, who was linked with a move to Bolton in the summer, is contracted to the Dons until the end of June 2018.

The SPL side would reportedly accept a fee of around £200,000 for Logan.

Are we writing off Emmanuel at right-back then? At fault for the first goal yesterday perhaps, but did okay and certainly saved us just at the end. Josh is only 19 and needs first team matches if he is to develop.

As for Grigg, I don't see us affording him, a 25-year-old goalscorer from a fellow Championship club who is under contract. He reportedly cost £1M when Wigan bought him, so must be worth a lot more now.

Can the scouts not find some quality youngsters in the lower leagues or overseas?

Shay is decent getting forward but sometimes his positional awareness lets him down.
As he's under contract until 2018 there's no chance Aberdeen will sell him for £200k, particularly when the club are debt free, don't need the money and have no competent replacement pushing him for his place in the side.

Minor correction for Phil the SPL ceased to exist in 2012. Aberdeen are an SPFL Premiership team.

...it's been said but now makes you further question Chambers "injury" suspect it was so he didn't get cup tied
Copy and paste....we need a RB and a proven striker
...needs to start easing Berra out as he has gone at end of season anyway
......this is so so boringly repetitive ......how does this man not see what we need COYB

In case you didn't notice yet: MM doesn't like small defenders.

Why would any player choose to join us - the supporters boo you off every home game and give the captain such personal abuse he would consider leaving for another club?

Why are we generally linked with either players from struggling sides from the championship or sides we've just recently played?...I believe the scouting at this club must be pretty poor.

Grigg potential, the other fella I don't know nothing about but he sounds Irish and that'll suit Mick.

Chambers is probably on his way. I expect Berra to leave in the summer. We may need a defender or two.

Evans' wallet is terrified, Grigg's fee has gone higher

After the shambolic and embarrassing defending for their 2nd goal, I'd get rid of the lot of them

Why on worth would he come here, not a chance.
I would of thought that there are far more important matters to sort out here...

Why are we discussing these new signings,we know it wont happen, any case if MM has been given the nod to bring players in,that just sums up ME,Mcarthy has to go,dont want him to bring in anybody, just want him OUT.

Sign Grigg and there will be a dozen people in the corner of the North signing his song to an otherwise silent stadium - he'll wonder why he moved.

If Logan comes in....that's chambers off to wolves I think. I'd personally welcome that. And Grigg can be very dangerous if given the service, very doubtful he'll get that here though with the current shower of sh**e MM plays in midfield

Chambers forced to play RB so mick can pick his best mate Berra, who has been awful this season. Two games in a row where he's got under a high ball and it's led to a goal. Wherever he's going in the summer can't we just give him to them now and then keep Chambers?

I agree with arnie, the abuse chammbers has had from fans is a disgrace, its not his fault his playing out of position. He is still a decent centre half. Blame Mick for this should have adressed the RB problem seasons go. I also don't agree with booing Douglas, yes his not that great but you should always support the players. I don't like skuse much but I would never boo him. Afraid the club is toxic at the moment, we need a lift. Mick please do the decent thing and go. Thanks for keeping us 4 years a go and getting us in playoffs but you have ran out of ideas we now need a change.
