Replay Winners Will Face Brighton at Home Monday, 9th Jan 2017 19:17
Town will play Championship leaders Brighton and Hove Albion at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup if they defeat Lincoln City in next Tuesday's third round replay at Sincil Bank.
The Blues and the Vanarama National League leaders drew 2-2 at Portman Road on Saturday.
Town have previously faced the Seagulls in the FA Cup on two occasions. In November 1949 the Blues won a first round tie at Portman Road and won 2-1 with Harry Baird and Jackie Brown netting the goals.
Coincidentally, the teams met the following season at the second round stage at the Goldstone Ground in December 1950 with the Sussex side winning 2-0.
Overall, Town have the upper hand historically, having won 31 of the games (28 in the league) between the sides, Brighton 24 (22) and with 14 (13) having ended in draws.
The teams last met at Portman Road in the Championship in September when the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
If Town win their replay against the Imps they will play in the fourth round for the first time since 2010. Lincoln last made the fourth round in 1976.
Fourth round ties will be played over the weekend of Saturday 28th January.

Good, a home draw and a chance to progress in the competition and earn gate receipts and prize money. I always hope for the easiest matches as possible as its better to play the big teams later in the competition. I realise it is a bit of a joke to write that when we haven't progressed past Round 3 in seven years, but there you go.
Just a pointer, but to play Brighton, we have to beat a Lincoln team who will be seriously up for the replay. I expect Lincoln to play host to Brighton. Lets face it, does anyone really believe we will go to Sincil Bank and win?
Mildly amusing that we could and should be looking at 5th round. Wouldn't put it beyond Mick to pick a couple of weakened sides for these games assuming we win the replay. What's more concerning is the deafening silence coming from the club on and acquisition activity. A third of the window has gone. Nugent signed for Derby today for less than Murphy money that supposedly was burning a hole in the clubs pocket. What mugs we all are expecting anything different will happen.
Not the sort of reward for Lincoln other than fill their ground again. Past attitude from MM and current form suggests we'll not progress into next round sadly.
The minus brigade are out in force this evening....according to some, we have beaten Lincoln already and enjoying an easy game against Brighton who are more interested in other things. Lets get the facts right. I have seen jack s**t that tells me we will beat Lincoln. Their tails will be up make no mistake. It WILL be extremely difficult.
Agree in a half decent season we would be excited - but with our track record and current form I would be surprised if we make round 5.
Nugent arriving with Derby to finish the month off is another wonderful prospect..
Got to knuckle down and get on with it - thats us supporters not the team! Only a change of manager will in my view make a difference there. Oh and a change of owner would be nice..
Not a draw to get excited about. In the unlikely event we beat Lincoln I agree with those who believe McCarthy will go all out to lose the next round. He has no interest in cup.
Can imagine Brighton would rest a lot of their first team, we could actually get into the fifth round. Why not go all out and focus on the cup?! We've got nothing else to play for. Give the fans a bit of joy with a cup run please Mick.
200-400K will be generated by beating Lincoln and then getting beat by Brighton. We need to beat Lincoln urgently and get this money. If we can get a 0-0 draw with Brighton, even more money will be generated. Hugely important game at Lincoln which could make a huge difference for transfer funds, really up for this now. Our season is over if we lose at Lincoln City.
Has everyone forgot we struggled against lincoln with the best team and the best tactics we could manage . I think next tuesday will b another nail in the ipswich town coffin
Good chance of progression if we can get through Lincoln. We struggled to draw the first game so I am not holding out any hope. The money could prove handy IF we progress, reckon could be as much as 250,000. Also incentive for Lincoln City. Won't help us compete transfer wise with Derby et al nevertheless needed cash.
Sound point made by pjewellisagod. Season is realistically over if we lose at Lincoln. The fact that our season could be over in Jan is just plain depressing. Sad state of our club that Lincoln could end our season.
